Question ? about EBAY

Theres something I want to purchase off EBAY and it seems to be in my price range.(so far) Im going to bid on it in a few hours, but my GF told me that the price that the item shows isnt really the price of the item. Almost like a silent auction. This is what she said... that lets say the price is at liek $300 bucks and 9 people have bid on it, its only at 300 because 9 people have bid on it. Its like to stimulate higher bids or something. Is this true or if the highest bid says 300 is it really 300? Thanks! My girls crazy just wanna double check LOL

No actually she is right. The current bid price is what the auction has been ran up to. Lets say the last bidder (one who is winning the auction) has it at 300. His max bid might be 400. But the ones that have bid against him have only bid the auction up to 300.

So lets say you bid 350. he would still have the auction because he has bid a higher max bid of 400.

Hard to explain but I hope this helps.

If no one has bid and your the only bidder the price you see is what you would get it for.

Also if his max bid is 300 and thats where the auction is and you bid lets say 305 you will win it.

Confusing huh? Im confused just typing it.

Sorry but the female wins this battle.

Nah it makes sense. So lets say Mr. X's max bid he will do is 350. And my max bid would be 375. But the auction has not gone up that high. I would still beat Mr. X even though it has not gone up to 375. Now Im confused LOL

yea actually what you posted is right unless you through Mr.Z in the mix and he decides he wants the item. then same principal just another person involved.

Mike

Good Luck winning your auction. there is also something called phantom bidder. It will place a bid in for you with only 3 seconds left. That way the other person doesnt know you have an interest in it. for more info goto www.phantombidder.com

oh man, I like how people try to over explain stuff.

Look here's how it goes.

1. Seller posts a price. (i.e. $1.00)
2. First bidder puts in his Max Bid. (i.e. 10.00)
3. The item price is still showing current price (1.00 -- because
thats what the item started at)
4. Second bidder puts in his Max Bid (9.00)
5. The item price will show current price (10.00 -- because
First bidder's Max bid was 10.00 and its higher than second
bidder's Max bid of 9.00)
6. Third bidder puts in his Max Bid (15.00)
7. The item price will show current price (11.00)
8. Now next bidder that puts in a higher Max Bid than bidder
will have the top bid and current price.

I suggest put in comfortable Max bid and track the item to see if anyone else is keeping an eye on it.

So sorry my explanation made you , It was my best attempt which I might ad was atleast a little more effort than your first attempt. Your explanation 2nd try was perfect. Wish I would have thought about explaining it that way myself. I put the effort in to try and explain it to him. Your first response didnt really answer his question at all. Or maybe it did but didnt explain how his girlfriend could have very possibly been right and cost him the auction. I take it he is new to Ebay.

Hey 95Z,

I didn't mean anything by it. I just like talking. If you ever see any of my other post, I'm probably just kidding or making jokes. I don't take anything personal on here and I hope no one takes any of my Post personal.

Sorry about that.

They do have a book called E-Bay for dummies.

There ya go. Everything ya ever wanted to know.

You know you can probably get all that info for free from the Help option on e-bay. I've used it a couple of times and its very useful.

Dude its cool,

Its just hard to read people over the internet. Actually im just mad because you could do what I couldnt. (explain how it works) Its not your fault. I am way cranky today. After work last night went to a friends house and we dropped his ls1 into his car and bolted on the long tubes. This made for a very long day. Didnt get but a little over 4 hours sleep. **Reaches in pocket for chill pills**

All is good.
