97 Ws6 383 Lt1

i posted this in the florida section and on some local boards, but i haven't had any serious interest yet.

1997 Trans Am WS6 Metallic Green M6
96 LT1 4-bolt block, 6" rod scat 383, SRP +.030 pistons, ghetto ram air, K&N filter, Granatelli maf, March underdrive pullies, Elgin double roller timing set, BBK 58mm tb, ported stock heads by Heads-up Performance, 36# SVO injectors, Comp cams custom hydraulic roller, Comp pro mag 1.6 rr's, 2.00/1.57 ferrea stainless valves, Comp springs, titanium retainers, 10* locks, GMPP lifters, Comp hardened pushrods, NGK tr55 plugs, Taylor spiro pro wires, Hooker LT's , custom 2.5" dual exhaust with x-pipe, 2.5" Dynomax bullets, B&M ripper shifter, SLP lca's and panhard bar, MAC sfc's, rear spring airbags, Motive 4.10's, TA cover/girdle, tuning by Tony Bishop, LT4 km, SPEC stage 3 clutch with new 4-puck disc

the car has 59,400 miles on the clock, the 383 has less than 2000 miles on it (it was built and installed last fall) and the T56 was rebuilt less than 5000 miles ago. it has almost new nitto drag radials out back and worn out nittos on the front. everything works except the AC; it works fine but hasn't been recharged since the stroker engine went in. the car went 11.94 @ 119.8 at gainesville in january; you can see video of that pass here:

i'm asking $12,000, but am willing to negotiate for a cash deal. if you're interested or have any questions about the car please send me an email. i can also send pics via email.

nobody wants a 120 mph NA car that still gets 20+ mpg cruising on the highway?

To be honest, I was thinking about it but then watched the vid and felt for those rear brakes while you warmed up the tires. Anyhow, NICE car, but I am looking for an LS1. That is a VERY impressive track run!!!!!!!!!

Re: 97 Ws6 383 Lt1

thanks, but it's just an LT1, how fast can it be? you should have no trouble finding an LS1 that's faster than my car for half the price i'm asking.

how do you like the XE 274? i had that cam in my 462 ci pontiac engine and loved it.

Re: 97 Ws6 383 Lt1

sorry, I wasn't downing your LT1, I just have had one and wanted to try the LS1.

I had an issue with the distributor gear and cam gear getting eaten up, and along with a lot of other things, I have decided to store the Z29 while I pay off an Ls1

I loved the XE274 for the whole 20 miles I got to drive it

at the risk of hijacking my own thread, how does something like that end up happening? i've had the XE hydraulic cam and 2 relatively aggressive rollers in my big block and never had that problem. could there have been an issue with one of the cam journals or a bearing that caused the cam not to line up dead straight in the tunnel?

Re: 97 Ws6 383 Lt1

I put a set of massively milled heads on, which I didn't prepare for and had all kinds of things out of whack...............intake, distributor, accesories.........

I assume that since my dizzy wasn't all the way down against the intake, due to the heads.........then it was loose and doing all kinds of hell to those gears

Good luck with the car.............

Re: 97 Ws6 383 Lt1

that's not surprising about the bank not wanting to give more than 7 grand...i'm sure if the eventual buyer ends up financing it will be through a signature loan, not a regular car loan.

as for your questions...ghetto ram air is when you take a sawzall and cut the baffles out of the hood to feed air directly into the airbox. the shortblock was built by a local machine shop (they also prepped the block). the heads were done by charles rogers in lumberton, north carolina. his shop is called Heads Up Performance and he is relatively well known in the mustang community. i was referred to him several years ago by two people from this board who he did work for. charles also worked with his guy at comp to choose the right camshaft. let me know if you have any other specific questions.

i can send more pics later today from work (i've got a couple of the interior and maybe 1 or 2 more of the exterior). if you're still interested let me know and we'll see what we can work out. i am willing to negotiate on the price a little.

This is a great car inside, out, and very mechanically sound. I've got a lot of wrench time under it myself, and trust me you won't find a nicer WS6 around.
