I have a set of stock 5 spoke aluminum rims with mounted BF Goodrich comp ta zr rated tires (245/50/16). The rims are in excellant shape. The tires have a ton of tread left but all have "Dry Rotting" (for lack of the proper term) on the edges near the tread. These tires still perform great and worked just fine up to 110 mph (as fast as I've gone) but none the less the dry rotting is there, but only on the outside of the tire. The guy I bought the car from said he used some type of protectant before he put the car away for winter and found the tires like this when he took it out of storage. He drove it like this for 5,000 miles and I've driven it like this for another 2,000. They dont leak any air and again work just fine. The entire set is for sale for $300 plus shipping.
