Where you mount your radar detector
Windsheild with suction cups work the best. You want to have the radar positioned as low as possible with a clear line of site out the front and rear of the car. Its also very important to have it as level as possible.
Heres a pic ;

I have it flat againsed the dash and use the sction cups to stick it to the glass. Its aiming at the spot where the windsheild wipers dip below the glass so it can "see" out

Aren't radar detectors illegal up here? If so I'd like to mount it under the hood out of sight. If they are illegal do the police hassle or fine big on them? If they are legal the dash mount will do and I think look kinda cool but I'm always concerned about thieves breaking into my bird.
You do have to worry about theives. A friend of mine 'used' to be really big into breaking into cars (hey, he grew up in Chilliwack... what can I say) and he says that when they looked at a parked car, they always checked for suction up marks on the window, velcro on the dash, or an adaptor plugged into the outlet to see who had a radar detector - then they would smash into those cars to see what they could find. And 7 times out of 10 they found the car owner was too lazy to actually TAKE the radar detector and left it hidden under the seat, mats, console, or in the glove box.
Needless to say, I'm wary about leaving any hints behind for would-be theives to give them a reason to break in.
I'm looking to mount my detector in a way that it isn't obvious for theives, I can remove it, and it's stable when driving. I like Twitch's method so far, on the dash but using the suction cups. I don't like letting mine 'hang' from the window as much (even though that's what I do now) because I find the cups start to fail after a bit (or with any dust), and then when you hit a bump, the unit can fall. I split my current detector in half doing that...

Used to mount my radar detector just above my rear view mirror, but the suction cups are old and don't stick anymore.
Does any one know someone that works with plastics?
I'm thinking of a custom removable bracket either attached to the rear view mirror mount, or somehow attached to the top just above the window. Also got to find a way to better mount my remote display, rather than just having it half-in the cigarette pocket at the base of the centre console. I've seen some peoples rides that have a custom face plate to mount the remote display, http://www.xse.com/leres/ss/v1.html, but I don't have any tools nor the skills.

Although, we're working on those individuals constantly in an effort to turn them around and get them to see things the way the rest of the CCC (Chilliwack Criminal Community) see's it.
I would say that we should have them cracked and doing some B&E's here within a month.
