tuning experts...

I'm having some problems with the tune on the IROC. It sputters through the entire RPM range up to ~5500 RPM then it whips your head back and climb to 7000 no problem. I look in the rear view and their is a cloud of smoke.

I've done some data logs with the the guy that is tuning the chip but he seems to think it all looks okay.

I was wondering if anyone here has some data logging software that I can use. Or even if anyone is willing to help me out with the tune.

Anything is appreciated!

Thanks
-Ken

Put it on the dyno w/ the wide band o2. That will tell you what your butt can't:P

Thats a whole lot of money I'd like to avoid if possible. I'm kind of keeping that as a last resort.

id be glad to look into it for ya

i wont have a data logging software u could use with ur pcm .. but we might be able to find one on the net ..

it could be some hardware issue as well .. tunning wont make THAT BIG of a difference unless its WAY out of whack

ur air fuel ration or timing has to be REALLY messed up to make that big a difference

either way .. give me a shout and swing by .. me or matt will be able to tell if its a tune issue or a bigger hardware problem by driving it

ps. there is no need to go on the dyno if ur car isnt running perfect .. thats just a waste of money

but do put it on the dyno after its running tip top.. then u can fine tune it and get a few more ponies out of her

Thanks Payam! I know this is a pretty busy season so I'm good for when ever. As long as the weather is nice and the roads are clean and not icey.

Lets see when the weather is good next. How does that sound?

Unless you guys wanna come down to my place and take a look at it. Its up to you.

Stupid weather! Yesterday, the weather network said 10% POP for Monday and now it says 80 % POP.

Really? What program do you have? Your sure it will work with my old 87 ECM?

That would be great if you could lend that to me. Let me know when I can borrow it from you.

Thanks man!

Yup, I've got an 89 with the MAF sensor. I think your ECM is the same, 165 ECM with the 6B mask.

The program is the moates.net one, it's a free download.

I've got two exams tomorrow, but after that I'm available pretty much any time until January when I start working.

I've got all the prom tuning stuff, a burner and a bunch of EEPROMs.

Pretty soon all you'll need to tune is a laptop and the 'AutoproM', check out www.thirdgen.org in the DIY section, or www.moates.net.

Your right! I do have the 165!! At earliest I was looking at Monday but if the weather doesn't cooperate I won't be tuning until we get a nice sunny day.

alright!! Lots of wind on the coast so the POP for Monday is back down to 30%.

Alex, would we be able to set up a time on Friday or over the weekend so that I could borrow that stuff off you? I'll send you an email too with my cell # so you can give me a call to wrok something out.

Thanks!

Maybe try changing your spark plugs first. After doing the header I installed new plugs but for some reason after start up my car ran too rich and one plug got wet. It took me 3 weeks of trying to figure out why my car was missfiring. Finally I put the car on the scope and it showed that a couple of plugs were bad. I replaced them again and it ran fine!!
