Street Legals - Times

Left early today, car was not running right and traction was an issue for some odd reason, was heating up the dr's really well but they kept breaking loose. Maybe i am just rusty from the winter or something is wrong with the car. Best run was a 13.5@102 today, got 3 runs in 1.5hrs, it was not that busy i wish the car was running better so i could have stayed. Also with the 17X9 ZR-1's in the front and the stealth sub box in the back the car weighed in at 3670, last year with the 16's in the front and the box out it weighed 3570, so definately need to make sure i have the 16's back on and sub out. It was super hot, which was horrible with the helmet on in the car in the staging lanes.

Now time for the beach and bar, a good turnout from our guys they should have there times up later.

Re: Street Legals - Times

I hot three runs in between 6 and 7.

I then got two runs inbetween 7 and 10.20

First run I forgot to turn the traction control off. Managed at 14.19 at 102 with a 2.35 60 foot. Cars weighs 3890 or 4080 with me in it. I must confess, that as God is my witness, when I slammed into FOURTH gear, the traction control flashed at me on the screen. I would NEVER have imagined that was possible. Pretty cool.

The next three runs were lame. From 14.40 - 14.79. Wresteling with loosing traction, mostly of the line. As some of you may know, these cars also suffer from wheel hop which was a recurring problem.

The fifth and final run I turned off the TC AND the Stabililink. I managed a 60 foot of 2.30 and finished at 14.05 and 102.50. Although not pleased with these results I'm glad I finished the day with the best run.

I was using 91 octane gas and it was freakin hot, as we all know.

Re: Street Legals - Times

I left after my second run the heat also was not agreeable with the old gurl. My low coolant light kept coming on but my levels were good, go figure huh. My first run was 14.284 @ 97.08 and take a guess what my second run was tic tic tic bing 14.284 @ 97.49 the old 93 is consistant at least. Gerry looked at his computer after one run and I think he said the air temp going into his engine was 100 degrees F. and believe me it felt like it. Well I am waiting for Mopac to open thier dyno up in June and then I will start tuning my car It needs a good test and tune.

Oh yeah I weighed the car with me in it (3740lbs) and use my track time to determine my wheel and flywheel HP and it was ok since my car is a 93 rated at 275 Hp at the flywheel the numbers I got were 329.73 HP at the flywheel and 253.64 HP at the wheel the way it felt on the track that is about right.

Re: Street Legals - Times

Yeah I was there, some trannie issues with the Impy/9c1 not shifting very fast, and timing staying up there between shifts, need to tune a bit and work on the tranny tables, hopefully doesn't need a rebuild quite yet, but I'm just telling myself that, its on its way

Anyways somethings tupid like 14.5 @96mph, whatever should do better then that with 285rwhp, but the tranny was acting up big time.

Saw the fast & furious crew was super funny, 95wagon raced, not the best times but it was stinkin hot, and how many, 3 spills tonight? horrible.

Perry ran really nice, I saw that. Johnny, next time don't even bother just give me the DR's No just kidding, nice times!

Twitch, your car is sick looking, congrats on the times I saw that, thats a fancy and pretty light car you got there.

Re: Street Legals - Times

Hey Matt I am having the same tranny issues, it keeps staying up between shifts and even hits the rev limiter on the 1-2 shift.

Maybe it was just the weather because everyone's times look off the mark. I still have no idea why it wouldn't stick and go though maybe it is time for some new DR's. Although on the last run my rear end made some funny noises I will have to inspect at some point this weekend, but it is just too nice, time for the beach

Nice times Dave I am sure you can get that car into the mid 11's

Perry was off the limiter on every shift as well but he still managed a 12.6@110. It should cut a lot of time off with the new cam.

I also was having trouble on the line. Glad to hear others were as well meaning it may not be my car , just conditions.
Best I could muster was a 13.13.

I'm not saying that is it is MY stye, but as a gearhead and general car fan, I can't deny that those cars were pretty outrageous. Yeah I know, POSING with the Lambo doors raised and all was a bit over the top, but hell we do the same thing only in a differrent way. (ie noisy exhausts and burnouts)

Re: Street Legals - Times

LOL, Johnny I could prolly tune it not to hit the rev limiter and pump line pressure or something, but honestly you're prolly on the same boat as my dad's car LOL, just on its way out so it takes too long to shift, that slows you down a lot.

Re: Street Legals - Times

Yeah i think it is time to build, the line pressure is already up and the rev limiter is at 6400 and the shifts are at 6000. Also time for some gears cause the rear end has a little leak....don't know if that was the cause of the noise i heard yesterday or something from before....either way it's mod time.

Nothing is instantaneous.

Granted the electricity moves pretty fast but there is so much to the shift it makes time.
PCM sees shift RPM.
Grounds or ungrounds A or B solenoid, depending on gear
Solenoid stops or allows fluid flow to shift valve
Shift valve moves
Fluid flows to apply piston or away
Clutch or band moves.

By the time the shift actually happens at WOT the RPM has risen a few hundred.
Depending on trans mods the lag will be more or less

Mine is set to 5700 but will see 6-6100 at times.
My trans has done this stock with shift kit and modified with shift kit.
I had it apart last year to change a front clutch piston due to a crack and the clutches were fine.

Biggest thing is consistency.
If the trans always took 200 and now takes 400 to make the shift, not good.
But if it always took 400 and never changed, not so bad.
