Speedvision Musclecar shootout
Speedvision Musclecar shootout
I don't know if I got the times right, but Speedvision is having a Muscelcar shootout (Classic Muscle) Wednesday at 10pm on 55. Double check those times with your guide.
Its a shootout between 7 cars. The list like a 426 Challenger, AMX, 429 Boss, LS6 Chevelle SS, 442, GTO Judge, and Buick 455. All the 68-70 vintage, and from what I can see, mostly stock (if not purely stock).
They're doing 0-60, 1/4, 0-100-0, slalom and burnout contests.
Peter Klutt from Dream Car Garage is doing the driving (he has always seemed decent).
It sounds bad ***! Some of the nicest cars ever...

Re: Speedvision Musclecar shootout
I heard about the shootout a while ago but I forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me ChriSS. I just pulled this off SpeedTV website:
During the one-hour special scheduled to debut this summer on SPEED, muscle cars from each of the major manufacturers will battle against each other, renewing some of the old rivalries. The competitors include:
• 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge
• 1969 AMX 390 Go Package
• 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1
• 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile 442
• 1970 LS6 Chevelle SS
• 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
• 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger
Performance will depend on the manufacturers’ differences as each muscle car will use the same fuel and the same brake materials as well as run on the same brand tires.
All times are Eastern:
Wed, Aug 11 9:00PM new
Wed, Aug 11 1:00AM
Fri, Aug 13 5:00PM
Sun, Sep 5 8:00PM
Fri, Sep 10 8:00PM
I think the Buick GS or the LS6 Chevelle are going to come out on top of the drag race events and the Mustang will prob come out on top of the racing events.

The original recipe for a Muscle Car was as follows,
Take a manufactures "low rent" intermediate car and put the largest production engine, they were allowed , between the fenders.
(Prior to 1970 there was a corporate cap of 400 inches on intermediates although select stuff slipped through)
Take a Tempest, stuff in a 389= GTO
Take a Cutlass, stuff in a 400 = 442
Skylark, 401 (call it a 400) = GS
Chevelle, 396 = well you see where I'm going
When they lifted the CID ban in 70, many referred to the cars as "Supercars"
and the insurance beaters like my W-31 as "Junior Supercars"
The smaller cars were referred to "Ponycars " as most were marketed to stem the tide of the Mustang.
Don’t take this the wrong way but IMM and many others the "F" body never was and never will be a Muscle Car by definition.
As for COPO's, my nephew owns a beautiful L-72 427 COPO 9561 Camaro and he would NEVER call it a Muscle Car

No mustang, replaced by 429SCJ drag Pac Torino
No AMX , replaced by a Rebel "Machine"
No Challenger, replaced by a Hemi Charger or some other "B" body.
Then you would a true "Muscle Car" show down.

Re: Speedvision Musclecar shootout
For this episode I think we have to grant some leeway. They could only go with the cars that they had in stock. And very few people would loan their nearly stock classic for this testing, I'm sure. Would have loved to have seen a Camaro.
As for the definition of Muscle Car, the term IMO is very 'liquid.' Everyone has a different meaning of the word and it has changed over time. The Pony car vs Muscle car issue is another... there is a lot of 'grey' involved in that debate, and as the years went by, what was a pony car grew closer to what a Muscle car stood for (till they started to blur). The era of 66-71 saw so much change and evolution in the cars over a couple of years, I can't see how you can stay with one definition!

Re: Speedvision Musclecar shootout
Did anyone catch the show?? I only saw the end. The only thing I saw was the burnouts at the end and the final results. I dont want to ruin it if someone hasnt seen it and plans on seeing it.
