if they were kept out of sunlight they will be fine, i ran 2 years on my set of M&H racemasters, they were bought in 1970 they werent hardened or cracked at all. if they are still physically in good condition, i wouldnt worry.

I'll solicit some advise from those in the know.

Ahh I see how my response could have been misintepreted. Certainly no diss' was intended

What I should have said is

"Thanks for the heads up Payam, never thought that would be a problem. I'll ask around a few others folks in the drag racing game to see if this is indeed a problem"

That's probably when everyone will make it because the weather doesn't look good for this week either.

If they were not air tight sealed they will still go bad overtime, ultimately brand new is best but used aint bad I don't think as long as they are not hard, but as all rubber it has a shelf life, I'm sure someone can chime in.

When I worked at a tire shop, we were told that regular radials dry up and are no longer as effective after 5 years of no use. There is a way to see what month/year the tires were made by looking at the DOT #s. I can' t remember how to read them anymore but if I tried I could probably figure it out, but I would assume that Slicks would have a shorter shelf life. It make sense that they would as well. They are a softer and stickier compound than regular DOT radials, and therefore probably dry up faster. Plus they are actually meant to be used up fairly quickly. The softer the tire the faster they wear out. We all know that from the different brands that we throw on our cars. That's why truck tires last way longer. Just my 2cents
