Question Shipping Question

Just a quick questions for all the people that mod their car every couple of weeks. When you order something from the States, how does duty/tax work?
My tires are pretty bald and I'm ordering a set of tires from tirerack, so I want to know how much I would be paying in tax/duty, and does it mean I have to go somewhere and pay it first before they ship it to me? or how does it work?

Thx.

dont bother jack

drive to bellingham and get them installed at disctount tire

call them up and order ur tires (pay with ur credit card or somethin) .. then go there and get them installed .. drive right thru the border with some krispy cream (for me) and taco bell and say thats all u bought

i bought my tires off tirerack (kumho's) had them shipped to steven's house .. picked them up.. had them installed at discount tire .. costed me more than it would've if i were to buy it from discount (mounting / balancing included)

Well, you see, there's only a 30 dollar difference for them to delivery straight to my house. With my tires that are on my car right now, I really don't want to drive to the States.
But thx for the idea. I thought about that a little while ago, but couldn't find a place to ship it to. Now it's too late.

Do not ship them here!!!! You will get raped and end up paying way too much. Go to bellingham and get the tires mounted there then you won't have to pay tax or duty
I'm not sure where the best place to go is, but I think I heard a couple people mention discount tire.

1) u could've had them shipped to discount tire

So I can have them shipped to Discount Tire even though I'm not buying from them? Umm...ok...what do I do?
Call Discount, tell them I'm having tires ship to them and then go down there and just get it mounted?

P.S I always listen!! Just takes a couple tries remember?

IMO there is no benefit to buying tires in the states.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO benefit if you have them shipped here directly. It will cost a lot more.

If you go to Bellingham and buy them from Discount you will have to pay 8.5% WA state tax. There will be no installation costs.

If you buy them from Tire Rack and ship them to Bellingham / Blaine, there will be the shipping and the installation costs $80-$100 USD.

In both cases you have to add gas money and the 'risk' of getting caught.

Meantime you can buy them locally and quickly. Also, what about your road hazzard warranty? Blow a tire bought from the states and you have a BIG PITA to deal with.

There is 14.5% sales tax on tires, no duties.

Unless you can get a specialty tire at an unbelievable price then buy them locally. I bought some BFG R1A race tires from Tirerack but only because they were being blown out at $86 USD versus $140 regular price. Probably about $250 to buy in Canada as they were a specialty tire.

I bought my E/T's from Phil at Fast Toys. They were blemish tires, were a good deal and though I had to pay for shipping, I only had to pay GST. I think they were $400 CDN for two.

No....
He means buy them from discount tire!! The other guys maybe a little cheaper, but you won't have to pay for shipping if you buy them directly from discount tire.
If you get them shipped to your house from wherever you bought them in the US, I bet you'll be paying more then double in $CAD then the tires cost in $US

Argh, but discount tires doesn't have the ones I want. Neither does anywhere else here that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
