Scanner
Scanner
Well it looks like I need to get my car scanned as the engine light came on, on the drive home from Kelowna on today. Does anyone have one I could borrow, use, buy anything. And if not, whats a good ODBII scanner I could get for cheap? Where should I buy it?
My car is a 97 so I'll need an ODBII scanner. Any help will be MUCH appreciated and the deed will not go without reward Thanks guys.

Re: Scanner
I dont have an OBDII Scanner .. but the light has most likely to do with an EGR issue .. if i had to take a totaly blind guess ..
or you know what would be cheaper than buying an OBDII Scanner? doing an OBDI Swap ! that way you can scan and tune ur car for a fraction of the cost

Re: Scanner
Funny you should say because the light is gone now. It came on about 45 mins before Merrit and stayed on all the way home(I made 3 stops on the way and shut the car off). Came home and let it sit for a while and than did some quick running around and it was still on. But when I got up and went to work today it didnt come on. Is this common? Does this sound familiar
I dont think Ive read about anything like this before. Thanks for the help guys and any more comments or tips would be great.
Hmmm ODBI swap......hmmm. I dont think I would do that swap but I think I might do the LT1 to LS1 swap
Is the EGR a common problem? What goes wrong? Is it an easy fix? Thanks.

Re: Scanner
sounds like an EGR problem to me, very easy and cheap to fix, go buy an EGR valve, 2 nuts on the back of the manifold and a vaccum line, u'll need a small mirror if its ur first time doing it, and a 12 mm wrench (or it may be 10 for the stock nuts/studs, i had bolts in mine)
and an OBDI swap is the best thing you can do to your car... do it now or do it later .. but u'll want to do it when you learn what can be done with an OBDI

Re: Scanner
it could have been something as simple as your gas cap not having a good seal, and if you changed altitudes drasticly durring ur drive then it might not have been able to handle the pressure differential and a loose gas cap or a bad seal on one can throw an SES code.
Re: Scanner
I always try to remember to keep the gas cap tight for this exact reason, to not have the possibility of throwing a code. But I havw been known to do extrememly dumb things. These are good suggestions and I appreciate it and hope to get it scanned in the next couple of days. Thanks
