I wrote to Avanti and inquired to them as to why I would buy one of there cars when I could get a new Corvette and a 2002 Camaro for the same price. (I'm not interested in buying another car - I just wanted to hear what they had to say)
It took a month and half but they finally got back to me.
Here is what they said.
You can check out the F-body like Avanti here
I think the Avanti looked like a piece of crap before I still think it looks like *** today.

Hello Steve,
Your question is in regard to the price, as compared to the Corvette or the Camaro. The current Avanti is built on the F-body chassis, and we use the GM drive train. However, contrary to the Corvette and Camaro, the Avanti body and interior are hand-crafted. Limited production. The F-body platform was a way to enter back into the market without "re-inventing the wheel" so to speak. The 2004 Avanti will, however, be on it's own chassis.
