Plug in Power

I was at Car Tunes looking to upgrade my car stereo and this dude who does their installing was looking at my hawk. He said that you can plug in a "power progammer" to the computer under the dash and pick up over 20hp. Then he said you can unplug it incase you go in for warranty work. It cost $450.00 installed. Anyone out there have the lowdown on these things? Seems like a good way to pick-up a few ponies.

its basically the hypertech programmer, a waste of money. get ls1 edit. never take horsepower advice from a car audio place.

Those things SUCK !! they mess with the tune and CAN sometimes give you a very puny boost but for the most part just lean you out and add too much timing which can cause you KR . Most guys have to uninstall the power tuning garbage as soon as they mod anyways . If your really into a power programmer type hand held setup, go with the Diablo sport unit , far better program imo and they can be used to scan your setup . . . also they allow you to have custom tunes built for your setup and flashed to your pcm via authorized dealers for an additional cost . I would just save up for LS1edit and Atap

Thanks to 93form and twitch for the smart advice. I wont only take hp advice from a car audio place, I also don't really like their sound advice either. Everyone hype's up what they sell. Still looking for more info on the LS1edit.

if you want audio advice check out the audio section of this board. the ls1 edit allows you tune your car by allowing you to reprogram your pcm. for more info try the ls1 section.

I wouldn't exactly call a firehawk stock. They go to SLP for mods, the 02 is the only one with the blackwing air-lid and the bilstein racing suspension is sweet.

Gee Todd, over eight grand worth of mods from SLP and it's pretty much stock, sure. Yo twitch, I want a laptop too. I'm watching the price come down by the month. LS1edit and autotap are on my must have list by next driving season. I'll need a good tune by then. Thanks for the input guys.

hey Im not tryin to pick a fight....but gezzzz my car comes with bilstein shocks.......I would still say its completely stock....I would say if you can buy it from Gm with those options....then I would say its pretty much a stock car.....even with a catback exhaust ...I would hardly call that a mod

stock vs. modified. Hmmmmmmm

Well for my definition, stock means it came from the factory andhas been unmolested by the owner. Firehawks are very nice and they do have some hi po OPTIONS from GM, so to me you have a "stock Firehawk with GM performance options".

And very nice it is to.
