Noisy Door Fix !!

I always hated the noisy *** fbody doors when you shut them ( that metal thwacking around sound inside ) . I did a little diging around in there and found 99 % of the noise is from the slack in the rods for the lock and door handle . . . .

1. get some canopy tape ( one sided )

2. Pull Door panels

3. Carefully pull back vapor barrier

4. Snap the rods outa that black block and move the rod socks ( the little covers that let the door handle rod and lock rod move freely while inside that little block ) so there centered but most the slack is towards the latch side . Cut about 1.2" off the latch side of each ( a little less on the smaller one. ) but leave em on the rod and slide them down towards the latch outa the way for now .

5 Take canopy tape and lay it under the rods by the block to keep a very slight pressure againsed them ( under the socks ) Do a couple in the middle by the little " snap block " doey and a nice 1" by 1" peice on the inside of the door panel where the rod for the door handle first goes back in behind again ( closest to interior passengers door handle ) .

6. I found most the noise was in the hinge slack itself and not the actual rods smaking the inside of the door so I took 2 4" long peices and stacked them up. Stick them on the inside part of the door panel where the rods go behind ( closest to the latch this time ) . Once there on there good and you have decent pressure againsed the rods ( pushing towards the outside of the vehicle ) take the two sock peices you cut earlier and move them into position sheilding the rods from the friction/ pressure of the canopy tape. There should be enough pressure from the insulating tape to keep the little socks in place.

Done no more noise is like a lexus lol

You need another knock sensor to go bad so you stay out of trouble.

Oh yeah

My headlight "bonk" noise fix

For anybody with a transam, the oem headlamps are designed to keep pushing past the stops. When theres a build up of current ( they have hit the stops ) they shut off. Not only does this cause stripping of the teflon internal gear but its ****ing noisy !!

1. Get some of those screws that have built in rubber stoppers ( holow style )

2. remove existing screw from new stops

3. Remove top bumper on each side of the car ( white teflon meterial )

4. Insert new beutiful soft bump stop

Done , no more " BANG " when the lights come up

Good to have someone like you on our board with some body shop experience knowing everything about doors etc... I never realized that the noise came from that, I always thought its something to do with the door hitting somewhere or rather & nothing could be done, good to hear, I never even would have bothered to fix this noise cuz its one of those messy jobs & gains no power, plus its something I just don't mind after a while LOL, I think everyone is like that with these cars, just grows to live with the many noises, with me if that was the only imperfection yeah I say try fixing it, but there is so much noise with these cars, only fix is an electric cut-out LOL.
