Sounds good. I've been waiting for the price to come down. How good is Fido's reception compared to the other cells?

fido WAS goin under .. i bet u anything with this new deal they will steal the market

as for reception, as long as u stay in civilization u get very nice reception ... on the roads outside of the mainland (out past hope) it wont work .. doesnt work in kelowna .. but works just fine in whistler, and ALL of lower mainland . including chilliwack, mission, abby, maple ridge, etc etc

i admit ,, it does suck though as soon as u step outta town ... but i dont really care .. i dont travel lots

on another hand, its the best service out in the states ... fido and cantel are the only providers that use the GSM network (the whole world uses GSM) .. and cantel has JUST begun to use it .. telus and bell and 2/3 of cantell are still on the dianasour PCS network

Thanks for the update on reception Payam. My concern is will the cell phone work indoors like in my basement suite. That way I can cancel my regular phone. Don't need two phone bills.

Open bar at my place tomorrow. It'll be drum time so if you have sensitive ears bring plugs.

LMFAO !!!
You're joking, right?

Fido is on the way OUT of the market...they're trying to hold on for dear life right now and that's why they're pretty much giving away cell phone service. What do you think will happen when 5 million people get on this new plan? The customer service and call quality will suffer...which means paying out your a$$ in the long run. Take a look at their financial reports over the last year...the parent company (Microcell) is barely surviving!

PCS technology is NOT archaic...CDMA (Telus) is actually a newer technology than GSM. Hong Kong (arguably the world's largest business district) recently invested billions of dollars into CDMA technology to run their cellular infrastructure.

You are right about one thing...GSM is the world's largest cellular footprint...which means its basically an international standard. One problem though...FIDO phones (although they're GSM) will NOT work in other GSM areas (without modification)...so what's the point of having that technology if you cannot use it (easily)?

Fido sucks, plain and simple .

What are you talking about. When I went on holidays I went to Portugal, when I landed in London my phone transferred to the vodaphone network without touching a single thing. When I landed in Portugal it transferred to TMN (Portuguese network) while I was in Portugal I received all my calls, msgs, and I even got caller id showing the 604 area code. While I was in Portugal I could go into my phone settings and switch to any network that I wanted to.
What modifications are you talking about? I didn't do a single thing.
I actually like my fido phone because when I get sick of my phone I can switch it to any GSM phone on the market and not go through the cell provider and pay an arm and a leg for me to switch to a new phone.
I started of with a pos Nokia phone but now I have a Motorola V60, and I love it.

They all suck. Telus is sneaky. My bill runs about 150 a month. Add that up over the year. Its a big waste of fu*cing money. Unfortunately I need one.
