I kinda descided not to go with a 9 inch myself because aparently it robs even more power then a 12 bolt, significally more then the 12 bolt, when the 12 bolt robs quite a bit compared to the stock 10 bolt, so maybe its just worth it to go with a 12 bolt.
Armen has passed on this one, so how about we meet in the middle on this one @ $215 and I will drop it off to you as well....

PS= Phil just pulled a 1.7 60ft in an m6, stock 10-bolt with this cover and the rear-end didn't break!!!

You should be fine either way Andy.
The 12-bolt weighs way more than a 9-inch, but the 9 robs 1% more power. I will give up a little HP inorder to have WAY more durability and that shouldn't matter though because I'll be going to a deeper gear anyways!

Here is some stuff I found out about 9" vs. 12 bolt:
There are two choices here – the Ford 9" rear and the GM 12-bolt. This is the first choice to make. The Ford 9" has a number of advantages, including:
Low cost
A drop-out pumpkin, allowing quick gear changes
Indestructible.
But it seems to have a few drawbacks too:
No plug-and-play setups available, all seem to be "some assembly required"
The pinion is located further below the axle centerline (2.25" vs. 1.50" for the 12-bolt), offering the potential for pinion angle setup problems. This is also contributes to the next problem.
It has a higher internal friction loss. Published data indicates the GM 12-bolt has an efficiency of 93%, about 3% higher than the Ford 9" which is 90%. In a 500HP setup, this will cost you 15HP. (Ref: National Dragster, 11/10/99, "What’s The Diff?" by Bruce Dillishaw)
No ABS available.
It’s made by Ford.
The Ford rear end is also 38 pounds heavier then stock, I couldn't find out how much heavier the 12 bolt is then stock.

When you guys talk about 12 bolts, what size ring gear are you using? The stock GM 12 bolts came with a 8.88" ring gear but many aftermarket 12bolts use a 10" ring gear. I always assumed that you guys would be using the 10" but when I hear you guys say a 9" is stronger than a 12bolt I have to wonder. Id rather have a 10" ring gear than a 9" anyday. Size does matter, even if your GF tells you otherwise
