Nascar track in Oregon?

Not really a Nascar fan, but on the news this morning, they mentioned the deal for the Nascar track has fallen thru, and they are now looking to build it in Oregon... anyone else hear this?

There's a rumor going around Nascar might come to Vancouver, no not Washington. One of the worlds finest cities lost the Indy this year.

Oh well that means that I have to drive a little further to go see a race. I would still do it. Any mention of size or anything about the track or was it just a plan that Oregon might get one as Washington's fell through ??

I too saw this on the news and some discussion on another board. From what I know, they haven't decided on anything. Nascar is still wanting a track in the NW and looking at all options.

$$$$$$

We don't have enough people in Canada to make it worth while for them to spend millions of $$$ on each event. They're talked about bring NASCAR to Toronto but all it isn't worth it for all the BS involved

Re: Nascar track in Oregon?

It would be awesome to have a track here I think a lot of people would go and that would be an awesome party as well it could be like las vegas motor speedway and then we would have another drag strip and other tracks to enjoy but yeah I don't think it will happen. I want WA to get one

We are planning a road trip in a motorhome out to Lowes Motor Speedway in Cali for the 2005 season.

I concur with this statement judging by the awesome turnout we got with the Indy over the years. We're no Indianapolis but IMO we could support Nascar as well as most american cities have done. More people here than Portland so bring Nascar on. Money shouldn't be an issue, hey we won the Olympics so we can afford Nascar too. I doubt any New Yorkers will ever call Vancouver a village again like they did in soccer years ago.

We used to have a world class RR track. Anybody remember Westwood? Nobody went to it. The problem with Vancouver is there's too many pot smoking, yuppie wanna be's that are perfect for someting like indy. We need more beer drinking rednecks to get a good short track running and profitable

westwood was shut down cuz the rich people in the area didnt like the noise and the land was very valuble to develop and make more subdivisions etc. the guy who used to own the future shop chains bought that land and shut the track down to develop it. now he was bought out by best buy so you can shop at future shop now and know your not supporting him

the problem isnt the support its the money, here in canada we dont have the power, backing or resources to fight and maintain these sort of things, the rich always seem to get their way. we dont need more fans and racers, we need more money to support the sport, we have the people

Re: Nascar track in Oregon?

A motorsports radio talk show I listen to during the week was just talking about how big of a fan base nascar has in Canada. About 5 million Canadians watch the nascar race every week. Considering our population up here, thats a big percentage.

IF a track was to be built here in Vancouver, selling out the event would be easy.
