Just got out from under the car.

I jacked it up and left the weight on the suspension to simulate driving conditions. I ran it through all 6 gears and gave it part throttle in each.

I "think" (pretty sure) the noise is comming from the rear-end. It was kind of a rattle. What is weird is that from what I could tell, everything was spinning smoothly. When I put the clutch in the sound would go away, but I figure that is only because the load is off the gears.

any ideas?

Better yet, anyone experienced going to be roaming the North Shore anytime soon and want to do me a huge favour by listening to it???

Thanks

Andy

Just a thought... you cant simlulate wheehop very easily with this method. The problem with wheelhop, acceleration, and the control arm angle I saw on your car is that as the wheels move up in the well, the rear end rotates up and forward around the mounting point of the control arm on the body. This rotation, which you cannot simulate easily with the rear end on jackstands, will push the Driveshaft further into the tranny.

good luck man, trannies are the most complicated mechanical system on the car and they scare me

Check your plugs and wires. If your spark plug wires are burnt, the cylinders will misfire, and you may not even know. This will cause this....because it happened to me this weekend. Shifter was violently vibrating in 6th. Changed plugs and problem solved.
