Moving to Portland area

Hello,

I've been on this board for a long time, but don't post much (read alot). I'm currently in eastern Idaho. Not much happens over here to post. I'm looking to meet new people with similar interests. I fly out there on Saturday to meet the partners of the company that wants me to come work for them. The job is in Vancouver and I will more than likely find a place in Washington to live. Could some locals give me a heads up as to which parts to stay away from and where is the nicer places to live? Thanks in advance for any info.

Cody

Nice to see some new names.

Do you mean Vancouver, Washington or Vancouver, British Columbia?
I guess I should assume you mean Washington - it would be a long commute to BC everyday from Portland.....

Thumbs up

The Vancouver area is real nice, Donny, greenz28in503 should be able to direct you to the nicer areas of Vancouver.

I live in White Salmon which is in the Columbia Gorge about 45 minutes to the east. Alot of people who work in the Portland/Vancouver live in my area and commute. The Gorge area is real nice lots of outdoor activities and no smog checks!

Nice to see another fast'95 in the area!

That brings me to another question (good point Ken). I don't exactly have a legal exhaust (no cat). So I want to avoid having to get emission tests and inspections.

Welcome-

I live and work in Vancouver. Where are you going to be working? The partners here where I work have been hiring, maybe your coming to work for my company lol... ? What do you do for work?

Washington does a state inspection of the vehicle by the highway patrol before you can even get it registered. They check vin numbers for theft protection etc. Emissions testing is done every two years but it's only a sniffer test, not a visual.

I don't know the name of the company. Right now it is only two people (owners) and I would be the 3rd. It is an engineering firm. I'm currently a CADD & Project Manager. I design subdivisions and new roads. I'm not sure my car would pass the sniffer right now. It is programmed for this elevation (4500 ft) + the cam that is in it is a little bigger than a CC306 which is not sniffer friendly. What are some of the local track elevations. This last fall I was running in Boise (2700 ft) and was running 12.7x's (N/A) with a consistant 1.78 - 1.81 60 ft. I have the plumbing completely done for nitrous. I just have to finish the electrical wiring. I usually show the car locally as well. Go to my site and I only have one pic up right now www.rockincracing.com I have a couple more on http://www.fearlessperformance.com/codymain.htm

Thanks for the welcome.

Dude, you do exactly the same thing I do for a living. What software do you use, LDD?

Our tracks locally are about 2-300 ft elevation.

Are you looking to rent a place or buy? I can fill ya in on some good places to look etc.

We are undecided at the moment. We would like to buy, but houses there are turning around in like 48 hours. Plus we just built a new house here and have only lived in it for 2 months. We need to sell this one before I could qualify for another. So at first I will probably have to rent.

I've played a little with LDD. But the firm I currently work for uses Eagle Point with AutoCad backbone. I here their is a big demand over there for designers with experience. If you don't mind personal message me some info on you work back ground (ie. how long you've been doing this and what kind of wages I should be looking for?). I don't to take less than the market there but would be more than what I get here.

Thanks

Depending on what County you live in depends on if you have to go through Emission testing. From up here on the central part of Washington I know King, Pierce, a couple other counties have Emissions testing.

Heres the areas that are required to have testing
Clark county
King County
Pierce County
Spokan county &
Snohomash county
http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/air/c...tive_pages.htm
Will give you the Exact zips on where they are tested.

PS if you are looking for car clubs in that area there is a really nice Camaro club thats down in that area.

Or you can look up ours at www.pnwcc.com
