May have ported my exhaust ports too much???

I'm porting a set of LT1 heads myself and came across a topic that said not to match the exhaust port with the gasket, but I've already done it.. I didn't make any holes or anything, I'm talking strictly from a performance stand point. I heard that if you make the exhaust ports too big you lose power because the velocity of the exhaust gasses will be too slow and there isn't enough back pressure. I matched my exhaust port to almost the same size as a felpro 1406 gasket. The port still isn't as big as the 1 3/4" primaries of my AS&M headers, so will I be alright???? Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanx!!!

Yes, Bunker I know you told me before I don't have to match the exhaust ports but I didn't think that it would be that much of an issue. What do you think?????

aslong as they are smaller then the primaries on the headers you are fine, just trim the gasket a bit & you'll be fine. Thing with the exhaust is be carefull, the felpro 1406 gasket is big, if you go deep in while maintaining the size throught the bowl you'll hit holes, holes in the exhaust are no good, remember, the material below is very thin, the sides are somewhat ok, whatever you do don't go too deep, the exhaust ussually just gets opened up where the guide is right towards the back there, going beyond that is iffy, plus the casting shifts so be carefull, one exhaust might be fine, while the other will hit a hole before it gets as big as the one before it, same principle applies to the intakes. Exhaust ports are fine when big, aslong as they are smaller then the header port your fine, if they are bigger you will still gain power as apposed to a non-ported exhaust port.

have fun

Matt.

Ok, good!!!!
Yeah, I know what you're talking about Matt. I didn't go deep into the port. I could see that there is a big coolant passage there. I'm able to get a finger in there and it feels like I have around a 1/4" of material left. And I didn't make the port bigger then the gasket so I don't have to do any trimming.

Thanx for the feedback guys!!!
