LT1 Edit is a software program that allows you to make modifications to fuel and spark tables (sometimes caled Maps) amongst other things. However, the PCM is a flash memory so you have to make a change to the tune and then upload it to the PCM. You then make a log of your results and then change the tune and upload again.
It is a very cost affective may of making changes to your tune. However, for fairly modest bolt on modifications, the stock PCM is fairly good at making adjustments. When you get into cams and heads, then you really need to play with the tune to get the most out of the mods.
HPP basically makes a few small changes to fuel and timing and probably can eek out a few extra HP but is it debateable if it is worth the money ESPECIALLY since LT1 Edit can do the same and a lot more for less cost.
LS1 Edit however is a lot more expensive. About $500 USD. LT1 Edit is about $300 USD including the cable you need.
Locally, Matt and Payam are pretty savvy with LT1 Edit. In Seattle, Ellis Groo is the guy to see.
Do not, I repeat do not buy an HPP III power programmer. They are no where near worth the money and they are worthless for what you can do with them.
If you have a laptop with minimal power and OS you can buy an LT1 edit program for $250.00 U$ and change so many more parameters on your car.
I have bought the LT1 edit program and just waiting for delivery. The guy who is going to help me learn the program and dyno tune my car is buying Tunercat as it is not VIN specific he wants to check both programs and see which one is best.
He brought up a good point asking if LT1 edit will allow adjustments in real time which is more precise.
Apparently Tunercat might be offering a program that allows this.
Anyone? Bueler!?

Ellis is the guy to answer this question, but I don't see HOW you can change a tune with LT1 edit on the fly!!!! The PCM is a flash memory card thus I'm not sure it is eve possable to change that type of memory except for uploading and downloading.
The FAST is cool. I can be driving on the freeway at idle and change the fuel and timing and see the results immediately reflected in the readings from the wideband O2 sensor as well as feel the differance as well.
VERY cool.

Acctually Shawn I was told within the next 6 month Tunercat will have ONTHEFLY tunning for 94-95 OBDI computers, its another chip that goes onto the computer which can be modified on the fly, the already have it out for several computers, I belive the 93 LT1's will get it sooner they said, then 94-95 LT1 guys will get it but they are working on the thing right now, ON THE FLY TUNNING BABY
i too have heard this, its on the way for the 91-93s then the maf 94-95s, un sure about the obd2 cars though. but you will need to modify the pcm with a pi/ggy back style chip. but i have my dfi so i will stick with it most likely.
Tunercat allows you do tune on the fly now, you just need some aftermarket computer for the changes... Romulator or something like that...
it talks about it on the tunercat site.
I think the box costs 2-3,00 bux... I have yet to see anyone in the computer forums comment on owning one however, so i'm not sure how well it works
