Killed a rustang
I was on my way over the patullo bridge southbound for lunch with a buddy. I had wanted to wash my car last night, but it got too late, so my IROC was dirty and the tires were shabby looking. My t tops were off. A 5 litre notchback came up from behind, and we proceeded to play a little. I was wishing i wasn't driving a dirty car. Prolly looked beat. There was too much traffic to do anything for a while, but eventually we got lucky, and came to a red light. He was too timid to look over at me, but i figured it was on. His car was a creamy white, with gold stripes, a 4" cowl hood, and some nice meaty rubber on weld wheels. It sounded very healthy, with a definite cammy rumble, but i thougth WHAT THE HELL!
As the light changed, i rolled on the gas with the tranny in D. I got the jump on him right off the bat, and i could hear him behind me winding up through the gears. The thing sounded good pulling over 6000 on every shift! By 120kph the stang was about a dozen car lengths or more behind. If i'd really thought i had to, i could have pushed it much harder. My tranny automatically shifts at 5000rpm, and if i want to GO i have to manually shift it about 6300. This time I let the tranny do all the work.
I couldn't believe i pulled so much distance on him. I just might have to hit the dyno one of these days to see what it's doing.
