How much to import wheels/tires from US
How much to import wheels/tires from US
Have many of you guys gotten wheels and tires from the US?I have a chance at getting great prices on a wheel /tire combo the wheels are made in the US but the tires are offshore. I know I'll have to pay GST/PST but what other duties or taxes should I expect to cough up. I'm having them shipped to Sumas where I will pick them up myself.
Thanks
Thanks

contact twitchbitch hes normally got the hook up for those rims, if not all you pay are taxes at the border, i bring stuff across all the time, its just they may ask you where there made and reply usa.
best place for tires ive found so far is tirerack again if they ask its made in the usa, the only duties you have to pay are if its made anywhere outside of north america/mexico

Re: How much to import wheels/tires from US
i bought a set of tires from the sponser on the board... forget the name now, but in the wheels/tires section...
had them shipped to Pt. Roberts and drove across and picked 'em up. Great prices and only paid normal tax on 'em.
Thats how I'd do it again as well.

Re: How much to import wheels/tires from US
Drive accross just like Jeff sugested. That's what I did also. Cheaper shipping, regular taxes, no levy... no brainer. I don't ship ANYTHING from the US to my house anymore, it's a rip off.
Re: How much to import wheels/tires from US
anything that is made in the states gets no duties added (free trade). Tax you pay on anything you bring in.. If your wheels / tires are not made in the US, you will be charged duties as well .. duties on cloths is 15% .. not sure what it would be on wheels / tires
Re: How much to import wheels/tires from US
Thanks for the info guys. I pick them up next week in Sumas. The wheels are made in the US. I don't think the tires are. I'll post and let you know how I make out.

1) How hard is it to stuff 4 tires in a Camaro trunk/hatch/back seat?
2) Is it worth it to go and claim it at the border? Sure you save the $60 that UPS would charge for brokerage. But you're still paying $100 in GST/PST.
3) Have they ever eyeballed your new tires upon driving across when you have "$30 of shopping" to claim, that you did on the other side?

I'm not sure how much more it would of been via ups/fed-ex but i'm sure i saved 100 bux or so. But then say 15 for gas? 3 hours of time... lunch on the way... I might of came out ahead by 20 bux, hehe
