Very easy install for an exhaust shop. Takes less than an hour...what they do is cut out a section of your exhaust (behind the cats, before the muffler), slip the actual cut-out on (over the newly-created gap) and weld that sucker on. Shouldn't cost you more than $50 at Target muffler (cash ).

The cut-out itself can be bought for about $30.

no there won't be any leaks. It will be welded in just like the rest of your exhaust

I went to go get my three inch installed behind the cat yesterday and I was told NOT to do it there. Kris at Superior Performance said that Doc Thabrakay (sp?) had one on there and that it melted the floor board. So they got a custom one for about $30, and put it on right before the muffler. I took a look at where he suggested to do it and it seemed easily accesible, and didn't look like it would damage anything else.

Don't know if this is true but if Doc sees this post maybe he can vouch for it. Also if the car is lowered, the size of the cut out may make it scrape big time underneath.

It didn't melt anything on Doc's car he just has the sickest amount of undercoat on his car. The stuff hasnt dried for 9 years....it is going to suck when I have to install the Headers and Supercharger on that thing

Sandeep, you should be fine mounting it after the Y. It won't melt $hit. I even had the electric cut-out (has a chunky motor and wires) and the heat was NOT a problem. The lowering, however, can be. My car was slammed courtesy of the Eibach Sportlines...hitting a speedbump with more than two people in the car would cause scraping.

Raene - you can buy the e-Cutout from DMH performance...email me for details.

hmmmm..... That's what I thought.. The only way it could possibly get that hot under there is if you were idly and the gasses where hitting the boards dierctly. I your driving the wind flow should be more than enough to cool you down.... Nevertheless.. Correct me if I'm wrong , but then it really wouldn't matter where it went would it? So If I stuck with the game plan and put it in an easily accesible place right before the muffler it should be ok right? The only performance aspect that I can think of will come from the distance the exhaust has to travel before it gets out. I assume the object of it is to have the shortest route out, right? What do you guys thnk that I would gain/lose for the different positions?

Sorry guys...I HATE the sound of an exhaust cut-out on our cars. It sounds just like a low performance car with no muffler and it isn't alloud to be run in the open positon @ Mission durring street legal events!
