Help me fight ICBC!!
Help me fight ICBC!!
As some of you know, I was cut-off recently while travelling to work one August morning and totalled my car. I'm dealing with ICBC and currently at the stage where ICBC has to make an offer and cut me a cheque as a result of my total loss.
I just received a telephone call from a woman at ICBC basically telling me that she's done some research and feels my vehicle is only worth $12,800. The woman on the phone wanted me to agree on the figure and settle today. I asked if I had a choice. She explained that it's not a negotiation process, but, I am entitled to decline the offer and do a little research myself. After proving that my vehicle is worth more than that offered, she will then adjust the figure (not negotiable? right).
I would greatly appreciate it if some of you could help me with finding ads that state that my vehichle is worth more than 12,800.
Here are my specs:
1996 Camaro Z28
5.7L (w/ 180,000 km)
6 Speed Manual
T-Tops
Flawless body (No accidents)
Leather (Color: Charcol)
New tires, New brakes and callipers (all around)
The previous owner wanted $14,200. I negotiated due to required brakes, tires, and high kilometers; other than that, the car was mint. I paid $12,500.
The very next week, I spent $1465 in brakes and $650 in rubber.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan.

Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
I got a plan some of the guys here put your cars in the auto trader
and well Ryan you can just use there ads. From my understanding if you can show three adds of cars with similiar features they have to give you something based on those figures.

Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
Hahah, if it comes down to that :P. I'd rather do it legit though and respond to this woman fast so she knows that I'm not fooling around. Right now they're just low-balling me with that shotty figure. Once they realize I'm not an idiot they'll give me what it's worth. If not, I won't settle. I can leave it open for 2 years, not that I want to. That fact that I know ICBC tries this on everyone, and some people actually get taken advantage of, really pisses me off. I'm doing my best to prevent it from happening to me.
Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
btw I just passed on a 96 z28 vert, auto, 121,000 kms and I talked it down to 10,500......but passed on it because of a bunch of leaks.........I don't think icbc cares if you have new tires/blah blah blah .....they are just like dealerships.....all they care about is the model and kms
Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
unless you have receipts for work done on the vehicle within the previous 6 weeks, you're right - they don't really care. They base their numbers on the condition, milage, and market value.
Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
**** icbc, raise hell , they have to quote based on condition and exact replacement value wether they like it or not. Make them pay. They are an insurance company and nothing more , you are to get what the car is worth not what some pos rat bagged heap sold for with maaco paint etc etc. Start negotiations and be a hard *** .
u have to treat ICBC like a **** and ****em up the *** to get what u deserve trust me.

Then she low-balled me and I told her that I won't accept it and that I'll get back to her.

Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
Considering that Icky Bicky lowballs every initial off in order to save themselves money.......I don't think it would be wise for him to just "take" 12,8 and call it a day when he sounds like he's willing to put up a strugle for more.
It would be like handing over money to them, and hell........we all hand over way too much already.

Re: Help me fight ICBC!!
I am an adjuster..not ICBC,,but you have a couple of options here.
You can do your own search..ICBC uses ADP which is a company that evaluates the car based on info put on a sheet that is faxed to them. If the sheet isn't correctly filled out...you get a wide variation in prices. ADP goes on current market prices and adds or subtracts for value your car has or doesn't have. You may want to get a copy of the ADP sheet they have on your car and have a look at it. If you need help with that..let me know and I can help.
Next option is to go to appraisal.which will cost you money, as you have to appoint one (at your expense)..and they use theirs..then you both share the cost of an umpire that you both share the cost of..the decision is binding..sometimes reality will bite you
