Im not sure "good" and "cheap" can go hand in hand.. but im interested as well..

Ive heard porting the heads runs about 1500-1700 bucks. But im curious where to get this done? who recommends what?

Also. should i go aftermarket instead....

Thanks

well .. to get 450 rwhp NA out of ur LT1 u gotta go pretty radical bud ... u'll need a serious set of heads which will set u back at least 3 grand .. u'll need more cubes and i'll need a pretty big solid roller .. say good bye to air care and gas milage and daily driving it ... u'll need some steep gears to keep ur car alive in the lower rpm due to the bigger cam and what not...

but save urselve the hassle and get a blower .. a blown 450 rwhp car can be had for cheaper, more reliable, better gas milage, way better driveability and easier...

or if u go the nitrous route that will be the cheapest and funnest .. but u wont have ur power all the time and u'll have to refill that bottle ... BUT . when u get on that button u'll be the happiest man to drive a 450 rwhp car

good luck .. be glad to give u further advice if u want it

i was hoping youd reply. you brought me here from RS =)

Bit of history on my car..I blew a head gasket...had my top end rebuilt (couldnt afford to do the bottom as well) many many new parts..starter.clutch.hoses. etc etc...not many miles on it since...

To do a S/C i hear you need forged internals? etc. how much engine work am i looking at? cost? whos gonna do it...

Nitrous... can i run a 150 shot w/o problems??

Sorry for whoring up your thread Talos...your "heads work" question triggered some questions =)

I too would give too thumbs up to flow technics. I did not get work down by them but I spoke to him for some time and I know that a LOT of guys in Seattle have great things to say.

If you want to know about blowers and and what to expect, I can prolly help.

I hoping that I'll FINALLY get my ride up and running and getting its maximum potential realized this summer after some false starts.

ok first off . tell us ur TOTAL budget and we'll try to direct u towards the correct direction

u can run 6-8 lbs of boost on a stock motor if u work ur heads for a blower safely (intercooled obviously) .. when u get ur heads done, get the combustion chambers opened up as far as possible to drop ur compression ratio ... then slap on a Strim or a P600B with a nice front mount intercooler (custom made) with a moderate blower cam and u'll be looking at 450 rwhp EASY (trust me this will be cheaper than doing it NA) .. or just slap some headers on with a CC305 and throw on a 150 shot .. no need to touch ur heads or anything

ps. glad to see u made it here

and on another note .. ud be better off buying someones used heads than gettin ur own done .. it'll be a lot cheaper .. just look in the for sale forum

You want heads & best customer service ever & if you ever have a problem it'll be addressed to immideatly, go with Lloyd Elliot, he's in Texas, its only $80 CDN to send your heads there & $80 to get them back but you'll never be disappointed with the quality, here is the number, tell him Bunker refered you & he'll make you a nice set, he knows me really really well, here is the number:

972-617-5671

Ask for Lloyd, say bunker (matt) sent you, I have his heads btw. He charges I think $1200US for everything, that includes brand new valves, brand new valve job, cleaning, milling the heads to desired compression ratio, porting, unshrouding, brand new Comp springs 987's & its all installed. Can't beat it, the porting is only $400US of it.

Well well worth it IMHO.

BTW Talos if its for your Iron heads forget it, not worth it & it won't be cheap since cast iron is real messy to work with.
