Guys i got a problem with the car

ok my battery is shot to ****, for the last month or so i been chargeing it over night if i;m going to take the car out the next day. So today i went to start the car and it wants to go but wont start so then i swap batterys with my moms car and starts up fine but now the security light from the alarm stays on all the time in the dash and when i go to trun the car off it wont trun off by the trun of the iginiton switch, only way i can trun it off is by pulling the fuse to the igintion of the car in the hood bay. Any one know whats wrong with this and how i can fix it, i will be getting a new battery this weekend for sure, but whats the cause of this problem?

you still have that push button starter? I would guess that maybe that is stuck or is acting up. You ever spill anything on it? maybe the internals are corroded. when you start it next time and turn it off, if it stays on rev it up a bit and see if it turns off.

IF not make sure you have enough room, start from your house and face the road. Turn the ignition off, leave the key in and drive the car toward the road. Remember with the key off, your steering wheel will lock and you may not have power brakes so don't go too fast. Or try this on a longer deserted road so you can get up some speed (ie 50-70 km/hr).

If the car shuts off while revving or driving, there is a ignition module that is probably faulty. The solenoid? is probably fried and doesn't pick up the fact that your ignition is off. This happened to my Golf, and I had to replace it.

The other way to shut off your car is to put it in 6th pull the ebrake and stall it!! LOL although I wouldn't wanna do that.

EDIT: oh yeah and its spelled TURN, not TRUN

I have heard of the key cylinder going rarely. Consistently starts now but won't turn off? Is that right? YTou might have a problem with the VATS (Vehicle Anti theft system) if the security light is staying on.

Also, try your spare set of keys. See if the same thing happens. Usually the VATS resistor should only be a problem on start up, but who knows?

And you have a push button start? Is that right? Maybe you have an electrical issue in the wiring.

If when you turn it off all the lights go off on the cluster that can only be the selector module ontop of the steering columb, I belive Roy just had that problem a week ago, except he would start his car & it would die because the module wouldn't tell the PCM to turn on, in your case its not telling it to turn off. If all the lights on the cluster go out then its prolly your cylinder.

One other possibilty that i have had problems with a few times is the ignition wswitch electrical connector above the steering column. It has a tendency of melting down i have replaced a few on my car and friends i would check that out. It could possibly be shorting under there the plastic tends to weaken and melt over the years and shorts become a problem. Its a little bit of a bit$h to get at it but you should be able to see if it is nuked
once you get it out
Later

well we know the battery is messed up, first try pulling the pcm fuse, for a few minutes and install the new battery.

now the security light could be key related, as i learned the hard/expensive way the ignition tumbler rarely goes bad so quick. try your spare set and see if that fixes the vats light.

as for not turning off doubt its the push start as it only fires up the starter, so if thats messed then his starter would be turning all the time. the cheapest fix would be the ignition switch that sits above the steering colum, its about 20-30 bucks depending where you go. thats what tells your pcm what position your key is in. i can swap this with my eyes closed now.

now all that being said its prolly not a good idea to drive around on a battery that doesnt hold a charge, you could have damaged a lot of other electrical stuff on your car from over charging as your alternator was working harder to power your accesories. not to mention damage yoru alternator.

so try the new battery, spare key. hopefully it was just a glitch. if not i could help you with the ignition switch if you need a hand its pretty easy and the cheapest item to diagnose.

EDIT: wow it took me 6 minutes to write that up, lol. yeah i think its the ignition switch too, but try with the new battery first as you have to replace it anyway.
