Good day, I guess?

So today I decided to put the plates on my car, and take her out for a quick drive. The weather decided to be kind for once so I drove through White Rock & Surrey. Anyways, as I’m driving down #10 Hwy towards Langley I see a ’97 (I believe) BMW M3 in the right lane, so I’m like whatever; nice car. Now just as I pass McDonalds I gave my car some juice to get up the hill, and I guess the driver in the M3 thought I wanted to race him so he decided to come up right behind me. Now like most folks this really pisses me off, I respect other drivers and give them plenty of space so I’m like whatever, from 4th to 5th gear and the M3 started falling behind. Now just before I reached 184th street I thought I might as well slow down even though the light was green but before I could react I had a quick look in the rear view mirror, and saw the M3 coming up hard. So I’m thinking to myself, “Damn just go away!” I decided to speed up, and just before I hit 184th my right t-top started to jump up and down. I’m like sh*t! At the same time I’m looking in my rear view mirror only to see the M3 about a car away so I’m thinking to myself, Should I leave this guy in the dust or grab the T-top? (Quick decision) I decided to decelerate, one hand on the wheel while the other desperately trying to reach for the t-top which is about to fly off, and than it does (oh sh*t~!) I’m looking back thinking where did it land, oh no it didn’t hit the M3, or did it? Ahead of me the cars have all stopped because of the red light. I’m thinking to myself, what to do, what to do? Quick U-turn on #10 Hwy start flying down, my eyes sharper than ever badly searching for my right t-top Sh*t-sh*t, I don’t see it anywhere?!? Now I’ve pretty much reached the bottom of the hill, and again traffic is at a stand still because of the red light so I pulled another U-turn, drove up the Hwy looking left to right, damn it I still can’t see it anywhere?!? Finally I decided I’m going to get out of my car, and look for it. So I pull into a street, turn the car around, and parked it just enough out that if someone were to try stealing it I could see’em. Now I’m running across #10 Hwy, and decided to walk to the exact place where the t-top started to dance. I’m almost all the way up near 184th street, when what do you know it, the t-top is sitting in a thick spot of grass. Not a damn thing wrong with it, I’m like, “Dear God, thank you soooo much!” Jeez, what a nightmare! Well all is good, and I finally made it home just, and I mean just before the rain started to come down hard again. End of story, I learned my lesson – Never ever drive with t-tops again!

Re: Good day, I guess?

I've read that has happened to many people on the board.

Simply not putting the handle in the locked position is all it takes.
Could happen to anyone really, think about it - you are just putting them on when someone comes out to talk to you, distracting you for a moment - you had it in place but the latch wasn't closed.

Glad to hear it turned out ok - sure as hell could have been a lot worse!

Honestly buddy, I have no idea! The last time I ever removed my t-tops was last year. Since than the car has been sittin' in the garage, so... damn I don't know. Lmao! I'm just happy I didn't cause an accident or hurt anyone walking down the street.

Re: Good day, I guess?

well people always say to unlock your t-tops before you store the car so the weatherstripping wont compress and cause leaks...maybe thats what you did last summer and forgot about it

either way...good thing you didn't take someones limb out lol

and AMAZING that the t-top is still intact

They're actually more durable than you may think - people have posted that they saw them bounce when seeing them fly off in the rear view mirror.

NIce that there was a happy ending...

I've heard many problems about t-tops suddenly flying off. Was it locked down, or just in place?

SO what happened to the ***-hugging M3?

I remember DaveGrant94 lost his T-top in the wind on the highway....it shattered into a million pieces.

I was going through the Massey tunnel last week in the rain at rush hour....no matter how much I didn't tailgate, I kept almost hitting the guy in front of me. Finally dawned on me that he didn't have any taillights or brake lights. Sheesh.

You know what? your guess is as good as mine. As for the damn M3 it slowed down, and that's all I rememeber. Actually when I finally found the t-top the whole M3-race finally clicked in, lmao.

Re: Good day, I guess?

yea man your pretty lucky. Same thing happened to me on the freeway and i pulled over cause i have read that they have been ok. Sure enough 2 other ppl pull over and are like what hit me? Me not thinking i say "it was my t-top off my car, it flew off" Then after i think to myslef why didn't i just say i dunno, it came from the car infront of me. Anyways so now i lose 30% of my discount when i go to renew and i had to buy a new t-top cause it was shattered. Gunna cost about the same to buy it out because one guy had a brand new volvo suv with the oem replacement bs on his insurance. $1000 for a ****ing headlight. god.......

At least you were honest about it, and trust me it all pays off. The big guy upstairs is always watching.

Meh, that's life bud. Plus I took her out again for a lil rip around the block, felt so much better knowing my t-tops are safe at home, and not jumpin' around on my car (lmao).

Re: Good day, I guess?

HOLY **** !!

Did you hug it and kiss it when you found it in one piece ?? I think its in the good book that this situation calls for a full "dry hump" of the T Top right there on the spot where you found it . . .. . . you now as a thank you to the gods
