GM service screwed up

I went into Carter in Poco for synthetic oil and filter. I change it regularly every 5000k's and always buy my goods from this same dealership. Upon changing the oil filter I noticed I had 2 different filters. I asked the parts guy if this could damage the engine, he said we have a car in the shop that ceased up for this very reason. These filters on the LS1 look exactly the same but that's no excuse. The regular partsman that served me this wrong oil filter wasn't there today, lucky for him. My change oil light came on inadvertantly a few times after the last change and now I know why. The GM guy there today gave me a print out of all my purchases and GM clearly made a mistake and I have the evidence to prove it. Gonna complain to the head manager monday. My question is how much or do you think any damage was done to my LS1? Could it shorten the life of my motor? I'm one pissed off customer! I will always double-check the oil filter part # now but it's too late.

So.........did you drive with the wrong filter on all the way between oil changes?

I wouldn't imagine it would cause much actual damage.

I did and I hope you are right. They have a black C6 in stock but today is too wet for a test drive. Looking to win a new vehicle with the "push the button" contest. LS2 is on my mind but not much of a discount off msrp yet. I'd want mine factory ordered like the hawk so it can be unwrapped like a present. Base price is 67 g's so the only options I'd want is the $450.00 premium paint, roof option, wheels and Z51 handling package. Low 70's plus tax = 80 g's. Gotta flip a house and sell a bird in the new year for a C6 pink slip. They offered around 30 g's for my hawk so any offers will be considered.

I dunno dude it could have done some damage, but as long as the filter bolted up correctly I don't see why it would, just look at this oil filter and the original one, if the top is identical as in all the holes are in the same place except the outer dimension say its longer or something, then you have nothing to worry about at all, if its completelyl different then you may of been loosing oil pressure, getting unfiltered oil into the engine so yeah prolly some damage done, oil delivery is very important hence you should always double check anything you get from anywhere like me, even if its a water pump look at the P/N and everything to make sure its the same. otherwise if this filter is either smaller/longer then it makes no difference except oil capacity really.

I wouldnt worry about it if the filter fit all should be well more then likely they just stuck on a larger filter which is what i tend to do on the ls1s just cause i think there stock filter belongs on a neon.
