Decent day at Test/Tune - new best!

I went to the test and tune friday and had a great day. Ran into Sonny there (aka Andy's friend with the 03 cobra and gobs of boost). We lined up twice...

Ran a new best, but still not fully happy.

12.56 at 110.5 with a 60 of 1.95

I actually misread the slip at first and thought it a 12.66. D'oh!

All total, I made 12 passes. Cool huh?

My average run was 12.63 at 109.5 (I would guess). Darn consistent. Of my 12 runs, one was in the 12.5s, 9 were between 12.60 and 12.64, one was 12.73, and one sucky run was 13.03 where I blew the launch. MPH varied from 108.5-110.5 depending on the track conditions. Don't ask about reaction times because they sucked - I wasn't focusing at all on that aspect (average 0.7 or so).

I didn't do any weight reduction, only the !spare tire. Matter of fact, I was running with 3/4 of a tank of gas too. I kept my tire psi between 20-24 (nittos). I didn't seem to get any benefits from dropping lower today. Might get some gains from losing some weight (especially in the tank).

I think traction was tough for everyone. I was averaging 1.95 all day, with a best of 1.90. A lot of guys with slicks were only getting 1.7s (though a few hard core cars were eking out 1.4s). So, relatively I am happy with my sixties (relative to how everyone else did, not in absolute terms).

I think on a grippier day, when I can run a 1.8 or better, I can break down to low 12s (12.4?). I still think I can grip better on the road.

Thanks Amit!

I was really stoked that my times were so consistent. I think I could have dialed in a 12.61 at 109.5 and hit that within 3/100ths everytime!

My sad part was that even though I wasn't trying to get good reaction times, Sonny beat me out of the hole BOTH times. The bastard. What is it with my and cobras that I'm always trying to play catch up?? Haha! And unfortunately Sonny has too much power to reel in easily!

Good times Chris.

Did you try and stall it up higher when you launch?
How much heat did you put in the tires? Thet pressure looks pretty high...you said lower pressure hurt your times?

Interesting.

Damn, I missed you ChriSS

I got to mission at 7pm

ran 4 times

13.058@111.51 2.287 60'
13.175@112.2 2.394 60'
12.749@113.62 2.177 60'
12.518@113.26 2.042 60' shifted into 4th way early

I didn't have any tire spin on any of the runs.
I think I need to try launching harder.
I think the track was stickier than the road, now I just gotta get used to it.

Not bad for a first day at the track.
I need to figure out why my mph is that low, I would think it should be higher.

113.7 mph out of 447 rwhp ? you must have one HEAVY car dude

i was trapping 117 mph out of 380 rwhp in my 3600 lbs car, and I had only had 12.0 seconds to get there

on the scale it said 3870lbs

I am wondering if the guy that tuned it might have knocked some timing off after it came off the dyno. Seems like it isn't making power. Something is fishy.

Mike,

Well, I tried launching at higher rpms and the tires started spinning in the staging lane. I had a spotter watching me, and when I tried getting it up to 2700 rpm to launch, he said that my wheels were spinning while I was waiting for the tree. My car's so quiet compared to the others there, I couldn't here it though.

Compare that to the street where I can hold it up to 3500 rpm without the tires breaking loose!

There were other guys on DRs there and they were only cutting 2.0 sixty foots, so I don't feel too bad.

Your ETs sure were getting better thru the nite, by the looks of it. Are you running street Goodyears still? Not a bad 60' on that last run for a IRS and F1s.

I found it amazingly sticky up to a point. But as soon as I tried to push it harder, everything started to spin for me. Launching hard at 2000 rpm worked allright (and felt better than on the road), but as soon as I went higher, all traction was lost.

I don't know what is was, but a lot of guys seemed to quit before noon becuz they weren't getting the good 60's.

Maybe too much burnt rubber? Maybe this actually helped street tires? Or maybe they prepped things a little better after we left?

Yah, that was on the stock tires and all I was doing was a short 1 second burnout to spin the garbage off the tires.

I never found the limit of the traction on the track. It was super sticky and I don't even know if I was chirping 2nd.

I think a 1.9 60' should have been possible with my car last night.

You don't just knock something off & go slower, doesn't work that way LOL. At the track I find if you don't power shift the MPH suffers quie a bit aswell, needless to say our one on one was fun, I have to start tunning my car, I'm got no timning or an idea of how much fuel I'm putting in, should have been scanning last night, I got like 10+ runs in all.
