Corvette deals

I ran an add at LS1.com offering to trade my 02 firehawk for a newer Corvette. Guess who responds? The Moderator. I'm looking for opinions so hears what he has; 2002 Z06, 22k's and here's a list of his $8,000.00 US mods; Hallteck T-1 intake with race filter, FLP LT's with interchangable cats with off-road pipes, Borla Stinger catback exhaust, ASP underdrive pulley, aftermarket cam 227/224 from Thunder Racing installed by owner Geoff Skinner, Breathless performance short throw shifter and new Z06 chrome wheels. Dynojet numbers; 423rwhp/393rwtq. Sure he's raced it and he calls it aggresive. He wants $37,000.00 US but will trade for my Firehawk with some cash.

My hawk sells for around $28,000.00 US right now, that's the going rate on a 02. That makes the differance $9,000.00 US between his car and mine. I'm thinking of offering him $5,000.00 US for the trade. I couldn't mod the hawk out like that for that amount of cash. I totally realize that the price of vets are coming down more next year but any opinions welcome here.

I hear ya Todd. A Z06 isn't my first choice cause of the hardtop but a power machine like this warrants consideration. If he comes down from the 9,000 closer to 5,000 we might have a deal.

Here is the problem.

He is going to have to pay US taxes on your firehawk when he imports to the US, and you are going to have to pay taxes on THAT car when you bring it up here. Figure in an extra 7000 CAD in GST and PST, + 300 for fees and inspections.

Not trying to put you off, just warning you because I imported a 2000 vette 2 weeks ago and went through this.

You maybe able to get away with just paying the difference, I'm not sure how it works, but you could prolly bring it in to the US & at the insurance agency there do a trade in which would have you show $9,000 as the difference (kinda like dealerships do then you just pay the tax on the difference) well you can do that at any insurance agency (or should be able to), then when you import that car you say you had a trade in so the only purchase you made was 9k & thats all the tax you'll have to pay. Your car just gets registered there by contacting vehicle of registrars in US.

Good luck.

Wow... I would try to do the trade if the cost was reasonable.

I thought you only had to pay PST when you register a car you just bought (unless it was off a lot). Do you have to pay GST as well when they come over the border?

Yah Draco, do you think you can explain some of the details of the procedure? You can give us some details on the vette too if ya want.

Thx.

I think you should do it if you can work out a deal with him, definately try to make that deal work, and like Matt said just pay the tax on the difference, I am sure you can find someone to do that for you

Well when you register a car here if there is a trade in you only pay the difference, same when importing, that doesn't change things. You don't have to go through much at all to import a car, if you import, its easiest if its a 97+ F-body/Y-body, earlier ones didn't have DRL's in the states which you'd have to get working, 97+ you just need your airbag lable to read in english aswell as french instead of spanish My 95 wasn't even that bad to import & I needed DRL's etc...

Jack, I will post a writeup of my ordeal pretty soon. I did everything by the book and things worked out perfectly.

I'll start by saying congrats to Draco on his purchase. He bought down south but I'm trading and I believe (hope) bunker is right about paying tax on only the differance. I've already paid my gst and pst on my car. I haven't called the feds yet to find out the bad news on taxes but I will monday. This guy wants closer to $10,000.00 US cash differance and I can undertand why. The vet is obviously worth more. He's a vet too, a B-52 pilot in the air-force so I guess I'm dealing with a top gun. He's going away for a few months to a undisclosed location on duty in another hemisphere as he puts it so neither of us is in a hurry to trade. . As far as Kaos rolling his eyes on the value of my hawk I had the blue book checked and compared what hawks are truly selling for. What makes you the expert Kaos? Anyways, we've exchanged pics and we both are interested in the trade. I need to pony up my cash reserves and keep saving to make a deal like this happen. Any other great vet deals on 02 or newer please post them, thanks guys.
