Car not start, been sitting for a while

Car has been sitting since last april while i slowly replaced the clutch again and the input shaft, now the car doesnt want to start. it turns over but wont catch, comes close sometimes. tomorrow im gonna check for spark, and the fuel pump is still working and there is fuel pressure, but im wondering if have it sit so long the injectors could have been gummed up. if they are any ideas on how to clean then out.

also is it bad to use that quick start stuff on a fuel injected motor

its sucks cause changing the clutch and input shaft went so well to just have the car not start.\

any other ideas also to check for

First thing i would check is the battery... They can be quite finicky, I'm not sure how to properly test them though The amps while cranking are whats critical.

Re: Car not start, been sitting for a while

car has spark and fuel, i have checked the sparkand it is good. but the first time i checked the plugs they were soaked in gas. i have changed the plugs but it didnt help any. the gas was old but i put 20 lts of 94 in it. and there was not even a 1/4 tank left when it was sitting. i have put injector cleaner in it also. it turns over just wont catch still.

i have no ideas if i have fuel, and spark i dont know why it wouldnt at least fire. maybe ill drain the tank and put all new gas in. how do i drain the lines.

any ideas will help

when it you try to start it whats it doing? is it trying to fire or just turning over? if so is it turning over fast or slow?

Re: Car not start, been sitting for a while

a dead opti will still produce spark .. just at the wrong time .. if your motor is coughing or sounds like there's any fire goin on its probably a dead opti ... if its just cranking over without any difference in the sound .. it can still be a dead opti .. well i guess that didnt help much

but if ur getting spark then your ign module and coil are ok..

another thing you can do is unbolt your fuel rails, pull them off the intake, have a buddy hold them a few inches up and you crank it .. see if fuel is coming out.

if ur getting fuel and spark and its not starting.. then the spark timing is off. either that or you have damaged heads / valves = no compression .. which isnt the case.

Re: Car not start, been sitting for a while

well i changed the plugs yesterday, and let the car sit overnight and it just started up this morning. seems like it was flooded. yesterday the plugs were soaked in gas so i changed them but it still wouldnt start, now today first try it starts then dies a few times then started and ran fine except now the connection for my ignition switch is acting up.

car runs good other then that, i have never done anything with a tranny before so i was a little overwhelmed when i took it apart but all went back together good and still shifts smooth.

anyways thanks for the advice, but im glad i dont need it anymore

except anyone know where i can get the plug that plugs into the ignition switch, when the ignition switch went last time it melted part of it and no it seems to be a problem cause it is wiggling itself loose when i drive.

Re: Car not start, been sitting for a while

try gm or ebay for that part, keep an eye out for people parting out 4th gens in the forsale section, you may be able to snag one cheap. glad it fired up for you, but it still may an bad opti or one on its way out. my car did that for a while, it was the opti.

Re: Car not start, been sitting for a while

Try disconnecting all the fuel injector harnesses and crank it over for a while. If you hear it start to catch that means too much fuel was built up from initial startup and the excess fuel is starting to burn off. Keep cranking it over until you no longer hear the fuel burning off. Then reconnect the injectors and it should start right up.
