I thought I could rest while working night-shift, NOT. A 300lb patient barracaded himself in a room, had scissors and was very theatening. We had 8 police and 10 firemen respond to the code at 2 am. Tazers on and guns cocked hot to fire just incase he came out of the room. He started the room on fire by piling material on his bed (books), had to evacuate the whole building. He smashed up his room while the fire was burning, he smashed the mirror on his dresser, the window too so he could breathe. Police reluctant to enter room without swat guys. In the end the firemen pulled him from the window with a ladder. Police say their safety is paramount and they handled it well with no injuries, except smoke inhalation to the patient. The firemen were the real heroes on this code. After debrief no break for me, no sleep, no car cruise today. This incident might make the news. Think twice guys before you enter a career dealing with psychiatric patients although I found the whole situation kind of exciting. This has nothing to do with the board, just explaining why I wont be at the cruise today. Have a great cruise and get the pics up on the board for us all to see.
