Id like to see them prove the neck injury was from the punch . .. looked to me like it was from the pile of players ontop of the guy right afterwards and you see his ****ing head snap back .

You know, it wasn't the cops' idea... they are responding to complaints from the public. Law enforcement cannot just sit by when the public files a complaint - they have to investigate. The police cannot just "choose" to let the NHL deal with it if the complaint has any backing in law or precedent (i.e. McSorley... plenty of precedent there!).

When playing a rough game like hockey, you should assume responsibility for what could potentially happen with so much testosterone skating around rivaling for a black puck. You have to realize that the safety equipment provided isn't 100% effectful and some possibilities of serious injuries may occur.
However, at the same time you have to be weary that you are playing against other human beings made of soft shells. You have to understand that the dude may not play the same again emotionally or physically due to the incident, and that's something to consider.

agreed
Even though it is likely the initial punch didn't cause the neck injury, the injury wouldn't have happened if not for the punch.

That may be true, but I think it makes us look pathetic in BC. I think in all pro sports there has been only two incidences (I may be wrong on the #, but I'm not far off, at least with respect to highly publicized events) where the legal community has opted to step in irrespective of the sport's own regulating body and levy a charge. Both those cases have been in BC. That is sad.

I don't like to see this type of stuff in sports (Bertuzzi's hit) becuz it's completely unnecessary, but I think worse/equal things have happened on nearly a daily (or perhaps weekly) basis in pro sports, and no where else does the legal community decide to enter the fray.

I would expect this behaviour in California. Or NY. Or Toronto. Where litigation is the sad way of life, but here we are leading the charge in thee cases.

I think we have a sad situation and I am embarassed by BC.

Who charged him?
In Canada, the police don't do lay charges like in the states.
Here, someone has to lay charges.

For instance - if the police in the states went to a domestic disturbance, and when they get there they find a beat up wife that isn't willing step up - the police get to lay the charges themselves.
Not here.

"The public" can't lay charges - it has to be the person effected.

Did anyone ever read through the bs discusion on that link. God I got pissed off just reading it what a bunch of freaking morons. I played hockey most of my life and being the size i am i was always a target and i was always sent out to make things right. Its a freaking sport and he made a bad judgement call nothing more. Stupid a$$ reporters and bad publicity have just blown this way out of proportion. If the neck injury had never occured it would have been a couple of minutes in the box and nothing more.

total bs imop

If I recall the Brashear incident, the offical report was that "a concerned citizen in the crowd" filed a charge. Not too sure how the legal garbon works with that.

This sucks

I dont' really know what to make of this but what happens in the NHL should stay in the NHL. Yes the guy had gotten punched (although suckered) but is also like saying if the guy dindn't show up for the game in the first place, he wouldn't have gotten punched.. This is an unfortunate incident but I am sure people will learn from it.

Unfortunately it is the big B that has to suffer.

the police just forward the results of their investigation to the crown council, and they decide wether or not they want to charge him.

i agree with mike i played hockey for 10 years. things happen, im not making an excuse for bertuzzi but i really feel if moore hadnt been such a ***** skating away none of this would have happened. sorry the guy has a glass neck. the stupid thing is it is gonna be a total waste of time trying to charge him. good luck trying to prove the punch caused any injury. and what are they gonna do in a game where everything surounds physical play.

and this bull**** keeping secret moores injuries have made given me a total lack of respect for the colorado organization. its pathetic.

P.S. bettman is a turd !!!!!!!!!!

I think it's obvious that Moore and/or Colorado are gearing up for a civil suit against Bert and/or the Canucks.

I think you've got it right there Craig.
But it may not come out till they see
where these charges go first.

Cheers...
