Bastards tried to steal my car!!

So i get a call monday around 10, telling me that my car was broken into and someone tried to steal it...

I've finally had to time to really look at the damage in the light, and take some pictures that you can see here in the 3rd gallery here:

http://154.20.180.68:8080/gallery/my_z28_new

Seems they popped the lock, got inside and busted the steering column... However they manage to start cars after that i have no idea, but it wouldn't work in this case

Thankfully GM did good with the immobilzer/key resistor thingy!!

So anyone have something like this happen before and fix it without getting a new column or anything?

As you can see in the picture of the column, there is a peice of metal that comes out from the ingition cylinder that now doesn't have anything attached to it... When you turn the key, it just free wheels. I managed to find the peice that is supposed to be there, and I got it placed back on, so now when I turn the key, it does what its supposed too...

My battery is dead however so i'm charging it now and once back i'll replace the coil wire (pulled it just in case they came back with knowledge of how to defeat the immobilzer/vats stuff), put the battery back and hope that it starts!

There is also some little metal wire that looks like its supposed to be hooked around something, but i have NO idea where this is supposed to go... any ideas?

You can see it in this picture:

Thanks guys,
Jeff

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

I feel your pain. The third night I was living in Langley someone broke into my truck and jacked my BRAND new deck. What sucks is that its about $500 worth of damage and my insurance deductable is $500. I figure its not worth having anything nice in there, so I just put my tape deck back in there.

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

My dumbass has a 1,000 deductible! So i'm trying to do it myself before i end up going that route.

The good? part is that we're about to buy another vehicle anyways so the camaro was planned to sit out for a number of months... I'm just gonna pull it into the garage and leave it alone for awhile, fix it later...

However, on a great note, I got the car started today!! That plastic cogg/thingy that I took a picture of, did the trick perfectly! I put that back on in the proper place (meshed with the metal slider), charged the battery and she fired up just like normal!!

My only concern now is that when I shut the car off and take out the key, the plastic peice starts to slide off... So i just need to make sure its seated properly

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

its parked in the garage now all safe and sound...

But it happened right in front of Mike's house... About 3 weeks prior to that, the dude next door had his truck broken into and tools stolen outta it... and then 2? days ago, some lady 3 houses down had her car stolen @ like 3 in the afternoon!

I've been told that in the past 3 months, the west side? (kits and those areas) have had like 60 cars stolen!

I guess the bastards are afraid of all the bait cars in surrey so they have to move

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

I actually have car theft to thank for my getting a Camaro. My Honda was stolen on Halloween and I bought my Z with the insurance dough. Pretty good trade, eh?

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

I had the same thing happen to my car, minus the door lock getting busted. My deductible was 300 bucks, and the parts and labor worked out to 1300 bucks to fix the stearing column.

1300 for the column?! Holy ****!!

I'm hoping to get away with less then 200 for the column... And i'm unsure of the door at this point...

I can pickup a used column off ebay, with the matching key, for 100~... Then just the time to put it in...

Now if i can get lucky and find a burgandy camaro in the area, i'm all set for the door

You are lucky that the GM VATS anti-theft system works No matter if they were able to get the starter to engage, the PCM will not enable the fuel if it doesn't get the correct VATs signal. And there is no go around with that unless the theif is real smart. And the GM VATS system is even much improved in the newer LS1 cars

Re: Bastards tried to steal my car!!

well, for some reason they sent my car to taylormotive on pemberton in nv... They are f*cking con artists, but i only had to pay the deductible so it wasnt 2 big of a deal. But thats what they billed icbc for. 1300$$$$ and thats was for an 85z28.
