anyone interested in custom built CAGES / suspension parts?

a friend of mine who used to build and design race cars (Go carts and Formula cars) in Iran just told me that building cages and chasis/suspension parts is RIGHT up his alley ... he told me how easy he can make me a cage. howEVER i want it .. then i showed him the parts we put in our cars ie LCAs/ PHR / STB/ TQ arms .. and he said he can EASILY build ANY of them .. all he needs is an original to make copies of...

im gonna get an NHRA book and possibly make a custom cage for myself and make sure its legal he was wondering, if there is enough interst in custom suspension parts and cages .. he will start building them and selling them for CHEAP. WAY cheaper than what u get at any store .. and of course, using the same alloy steel as anyone else ... so it'll be just as good...

so post here with ur interest .. thanx

my cage will be planned and built soon... and im going to possibly copy a Spohn TQ Arm soon after

heres is a Web page of what they have made . though it has NOT been updated for a LONG time and their most impressive Formula car isnt in there .. but it has won many international awards for inginuity and design ... i think it was a 900 lbs formula car with a 200 hp BMW M motor .. with a CRAZY suspension setup (designed from scratch) i'll see if i can get some pics of that . it was deadly .. i saw it in person 2 years ago

"show him a picture" ?!

oh man I hope this guy knows what the hell he's doing. being 5mm off will totally screw up your alignment... and as for the safety/strength issue of suspension pieces...

:-O

let us know how it goes, although reverse engineering aftermarket suspension pieces sounds than were reverse engineering (or custom designs) in the first place sounds bit risky.

Ask him if he has any automotive engineering experience, or if he could design/fab a piece from studying the stock stuff. SFC's and roll cages are one thing, A-arms are a whole different ball game... or so I've been led to belive

Once ya get some pics and prices, make sure to post 'em with a review.

steve: i think u missed the whole part about him DESIGNING AND BUILDING FORMULA CARS FROM SCRATCH

the picture .. is to give him an IDEA !
u also seem to have missed the part about him needing an original to make copies off of

go read my original post one more time please.

as for everyone else, after we get some more demand i'l make him a list, and take pictures of the ones u guys want ... most of these parts can be found on my own car so duplicating them isnt a problem ..

mike, dont worry he's just going home to northvan he's a good family friend .. he can most definately build u a cage, he was telling me how he built road racing cages for cars before he moved here ... and about the BMR SFCs .. u say 137 usd ? im sure he can create a duplicate of those for $150 cdn or probably less ..

he just didnt want to quote on anything untill he figured what the demand was...

Sent you emial #hotmail Payam

NP Mike, I'll take all the pics you need AND perhaps you can learn from the mistakes of the guy that built mine

Mike: If I were to do it again I'd go with a 6 point AND I STRONGLY recommend that you go weld in. I hear that the flex of the car WILL cause long term problems with bolt in including elongating the bolt holes.

I really want a roll bar that will work without modifying my fullrear tonneau covers.

Doesn't have to be track approved just offer a bit more protection than the window frame in case I roll the car. I don't know if shawn's type will fit the bill? But I'm in for a set if they do.

Payam I am 100% interested in a 6 point cage for my '69 Camaro. Weld in and doesn't have to be NHRA approved. Let me know asap. The car is at home and can only be towed, so if he could bring the materials and welder and do it at my house would be easiest for me.

LMK asap.
