Anyone got a tranny jack?
Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
dont have a tranny jack but i got this huge *** jack, or you can get a tranny attachment from kms and use a regular hydrualic jack. LMK if you need a place to do it.
Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
is it hard to do a clutch swap at home? i think im gonna do it myself when i get one...might as well learn now seeing as ill probably be going through a lot of them in my life lol
Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
Jack attachments suck unless you can actually get the car atleast 4 feet of the ground. Just bench press it craig
hell i have done tons that way get a friend to help position it and get it up it can be done. Just takes a little manipulating

Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
the problem is that with a C5, you drop the rear diff with the tranny and torque tube. total weight is around 400 lbs, total length about 6 feet, and trying to maneouvre the whole driveline when putting it back together is a bear without a tranny jack.
Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
my jack can raise the car about 22 inches, if you need to get it higher then you can use a piece of 2x4 to get a higher lift, position the car on jack stands, i preffer cynder blocks, LOL. then use a tranny attachment for the tranny.
another option would be to rent a shop with a hoist http://www.you-do.ca has all the tools you would need and is affordable. especially if you have a few sets of hands.

Re: Anyone got a tranny jack?
That is sweet, i am think i am going to use that put my new converter in
We should all pitch in and buy a hoist and put it at someones house, whoever has the space and then it could be used by any of the people who pitched in and then others can be charged like these guys are charging

when i buy a house you can buy me a hoist jd
Craig i just dont see a tranny attachment working worth a $hit i have a attachment but the stability on a piece that big would suck. you can try it if you want but like i said you will have to get the vehicle way off the ground
i would say minimum of like 3 feet

Corvettes are wierd under there huh . . . .I was like hmmm . . . this is new
Just an idea but you may be able to go the other way ( Up with the chassis ) depending on the length of the torque tube spline that goes into the bellhousing . . . it worked better for me than pulling the engine and dis connecting everything I just lifted the entire chassis off the drive train . . . then dropped it back into place when I was done. . . you should be able to do similar by using a jack on the rear K member and sorta pull it back as you lift the chassis off . . . .just have to build a little support for the front of the torque tube.

I always wonder how you can afford all these things with no job and have time to be doing this stuff if you have a job, and hmm.. where?
