All 4th gen LT1 owners....

I've been thinking about buying a 93-97 camaro, but I've read up on them a little and heard horror stories about electrical problems and cooling system problems and everything. Also how expensive they can be to fix.

Im wondering what experiences you guys have had with your cars realibility wise.

Im looking for a car that runs consistant low 13's on street tires. How much money in mods would this set me back on a stock camaro? Would I have to worry about the rear end at that power level (on street tires).

Also what are good years of the 4th Lt1's to look for?

Thanks

95 would be the year to buy. as for 13s on street tires, theres lots of guys here doing this already. headers and cai would get you there. not too many electrical problems here. and cooling? nope, the only trouble id say is the opti.

Thumbs up

Got a good one, daily driver, runs 13's on street tires and minimal hassles.... but I've only really done minimal stuff and no sticky tires. Only things I have had to deal with are the A4 trans, optispark, wiper motor, intake leak, rest is just regular maintenance, electrical is fine. 3rd gen's are a different story though...

I love my car, it's been a great ride from the moment I got it.
It's extremly reliable (although lately I've only put on less than 2K a year) fun to drive and gets reasonable fuel economy.

Getting into the low 13's for an LT1 is fairly easy to accomplish.
There's many ways to get there...........easiest would be to buy a small bottle and accesories for the hatch and use where applicable - thus keeping the car more or less stock and having the odd fun romp.
If full time power is more what you are after then the basic mods will get you mostly there........intake, headers, exhast and shift kit for an auto will see you there.
You could just go with a cam for a bit more money.......
I would say that consistant low 13's can be had for under 3G's.

Most of the crew will tell you that a 95 would be the best Zed to go after - I would say 97 due to the newer interior and better looking stock wheels.

If I were looking for a Camaro again I would chase a nice 96 or 97 SS.

Pre OBD2, vented opti and some late 95's had the 2 cat setup.

Mostly pre OBD2 I imagine though........easier for mods.

I've had my 95 Z for 6, going on 7 years now, and I've been reading this board almost daily for the past 4-5, and I will tell you that who ever told you 4th gens have habits of electrical problems and cooling system problems is full of it

We have our horror stories, don't get me wrong... But NOT in those areas... Biggest problems with our gen. cars, are the Opti and Rear-ends...

And rear-ends mostly if you run sticky tires and its generally us M6 guys grenading them with the oh so much fun torque and whip lash inducing launchs

Yeah I wouldnt mind a trans am, but I think its the LS1 style ones I like the look of not LT1. The kind with the big air scoops in the hood facing forward.

This may sound idiotic, but I'm assuming the OBD2 you guys are talking about are the types of computers in the maros? And the opti spark, obviously has something to do with ignition, but what exactly?
