Question Adjusting Roller Rockers?

Hey guys I just installed my roller rockers today, did the whole adjustment thing. The instructions were a little vague, I adjusted the roller rockers to the point where the pushrods have no slack going up and down, but I can still turn them. Now the roller rockers themselves have a little slack in them too, side to side, and a bit up and down.....did i do it right or do they have to be further adjusted to the point where there is no slack in anything?

I would greatly apprieciate a response, as i am wanting to get the car on the road next week. (THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING HERE FOR A WEEK)

Thanks

JIM

I think you're suppose to tighten the rockers down until you can no longer wiggle or spin the pushrods. Then give them another quarter turn (tightening) to preload the hydrolic lifters. Then tighten the set screw.
I haven't adjusted rockers for a while but I think this is the proper procedure. Can anybody else confirm this????

I did a bit of a search, and some guy said that "the push rod should have no up and down play, and the "turning" of the pushrod should have some drag, this is how you can varify that you have proper valve adjustment"

Is this true?

Thanks

once you feel any resistance on the pushrod thats 0 lash. After you tighten tham they will all loosen up due to the lifter compressing(hydraulics) leave them don't go back & retighten them by any means

i guess this is a little late but what i do is run the car with the valve covers off. then i loosen the nut off until it stats too tick then i tighten it until the ticking goes away then another quarter turn.
if you do this make sure you have some sort of sheil at the bottom to keep the oil from going every where.
i use cardboard.
hope this helps you guys in the future

So you're saying that you shouldn't give it the quarter turn to preload the lifters???? I heard that when you run a solid lifter you don't give the quarter turn, but if you're running hydralic lifters you are suppose to?????

Oh Boy...

I'll make an assumption that the lifters are hydraulic, (zero lash lifters). He said he's installed roller rockers only. There is no difference in adjusting the rocker arms, they are still driven by the same cam/lifters, so the adjustment should be by the book. GM says 'take out all slack'; that means spin the pusrod with your fingers until it just gets a drag on it. then, note where your wrench handle is pointed, turn the adjustment 1 full turn more. A standard 'trick' is to only turn it between 1/4 turn and a half turn to affect valve timing slightly, and this usually results in a higher reving engine (before valve float). You lose a little bottom end torque though. If the lifters are set to GM settings (1 turn in past drag point) the lifter will operate much longer without the need to turn it in as wear and tear happens over time. Now SOLID lifters are a whole different deal...
