They stopped selling these cars because they were too expensive....so now they want to re-introduce it as an ever higher priced car?

You must be refering to the ZO6..........because nobody made any mention of a price for the 5th gen.

I wouldn't have considered the C5 ZO6 too expensive by any means, quite the contrary really - I thought it was a screaming deal, performance wise.

Now that it's in C6 form........that "deal" has be shaken a tad - but compared to other cars of the same power and handling, it's still much cheaper.

Camaros and Corvettes are an awesome deal...even though they're priced above competitors (well...not the corvette really)

but that's exactly the problem...mustangs are cheaper...and tahts what killed the camaro

if the camaro was the same price as a new mustang...id bet that the mustang would've died

Re: 2007 Camaro

It actually wasn't pricing alone that led to the demise of the Fbody.
There were many many more factors than that.

Re: 2007 Camaro

F*ck I want one, too bad it's not real.
The reason they weren't selling is people weren't keen on spending 35 grand on a car so keen on spending that kind of money on something that is notorious for being problematic and synonamous with rednecks.
That's NOT the case but that's the stereotype. That's why, I think, GM wanted to kill the Camaro and shake itself from the Marlboro-smokin', Tobacco-chewin' trailer-park name.
Remember 4th gens are straight-up gorgeous, late-model 3rd gens are beautiful (Red IROC L98 = dang!) and the 1st Gens are nothing short of breath-taking, but the 2nd gen for the most part was a POS, and that's the one that sold the most and left a sour taste in everybody's mouth.

When people think Camaro they think of the trashy fat dude in the Brown Berlinetta with wire-wheels and white wall tires, where the interior smells of heavy cigarettes and the electronics no longer work. That's the image the non-F-body guys have of the Camaro.

I, like most people on this board, know different, but the market to spend that kind of money on a Camaro still wouldn't be a heart-beat descision for everybody.
Vancouver. A single guy. He needs a nice car...well hey lookee the Camaro...but for the price he could get an all-weather STI with the same power.

Demographically the F-body is designed to appeal to the kind of people who cannot afford it.

Re: 2007 Camaro

the demise of the camaro had very little do to with price, yes it was more expensive than the mustang, but the main reason was to do with safety upgrades that couldn't be met, the union in the canadian plant (fu(k unions).. and something else that i can't remember...

I always thought the 4th gen looked and sounded kind of lousy . Not very comfortable for me either. Never really liked 3rd gens because Ive been in too many beater 305ci that couldnt even spin the single tire. Second gens and first gens are pretty nice though. The reason GM killed the 4th gen is very simply because they didnt sell. Unlike the 2nd gen that sold almost 2million. Because the 2nd gen was so popular there were lots that survived to the beater stage. Thats when poor people and young kids can (barely) afford to drive them. Pretty hard on the reputation. The 4th gen will see the same thing, but not as much because there are less of them. 2nd gens are gaining a lot more respect now that there are less beaters, and more nice ones out there.

Anyhow, I didnt think GM could produce a kappa based camaro so quickly. The kappa has a lot of potential as a sports car, but I dont think it would take a V8 very easy.

Re: 2007 Camaro

Come on guys, you're telling me price didn't have anything to do with it? I remember when the 1985 IROC's came out. A fairly hot car for the day. Local chevy dealers wanted $20K for one. Fast forward 15 years and the same car new started at $40K. It's just too much money for a new Camaro. You could get them all the way up to 60K if you wanted a convertible SS/Firehawk with all the upgrades.

Nobody said that, I believe everyone that posted agrees that pricing had a factor in the downfall.

It just wasn't the only reason.

Re: 2007 Camaro

It went from an affordable car to a not-so-entry-level car. I'm sure if they offered a Camaro "classic" (Classic is a word German car makes use to refer to stripped of options) for cheap it might've done well, providing it still had the V8.
Isn't the Kappa platform too small though, to support it?

Re: 2007 Camaro

One of the reasons I posted about the Camaro, was to liven up the forum a bit, it seems to be getting kind of stale and this subject obviously worked.
I do believe that GM will come back with a Camaro, asssuming they are still in business in a couple of years.
I do notice one thing though, everybody here is the same as the Americans,
complaining about the price of Sports cars, be it Corvette, Camaros, Porsches or whatever. Like I posted on one of the Corvette boards, here are about 50% of people bitching about paying $ 65,800.00 for a new ZO6
basically an inexpensive supercar when here in Canada the same thing is like $ 95,000.00 plus 17% Taxes.
It boils down to simple math if you want to play you gotta pay. Andy, how much have you spent. Shaun how about you, I bet you could buy a new Vette for that.
Anyways I,m done for now.

Re: 2007 Camaro

I don't regret doing it once, but I'd never do it a second time.

Certainly could have a nice Viper in the garage as oppossed to the bird. Of course, I'll be a lot happier when I finally get the thing insured.

Re: 2007 Camaro

Shawn, if you had a viper you'd spend 200k on it, then you'd be saying on the Viper forms the same thing with "certainly would like to have a Ferrari instead".

Cory, stop searching on google before posting
