Texas College Student with a 5th Gen Obsession

Hey everyone, my name is Sean, and I am a recent listener of the CamaroZ28.com Podcast and I decided to become a member.

My story basically is I was never really a fan of Camaro's until I saw photos of the 2006 Camaro Concept car in a magazine in a doctor's waiting room after getting toe surgery(you can't always choose these moments). After that I generally just thought "Eh it would be nice to have but I'll never get it". Even after Transformers and it started appearing at the auto shows (the 2008 Texas State Fair Auto show in particular) I would jokingly say "Yep, need to get a job that will pay me 30,000 dollars, and I can make a down payment maybe". Around February we had to get my sister a new car after her Pontiac Sunfire decided to kill itself. they decided to go to a Kia dealership after an ad ran saying they would pay 3000 for any vehicle and 0 down with payments of 99 a month(or something). Well as they were discussing vehicles they came back and asked if we would want to trade in my Impala as well and get 2 cars. After a pause I replied ". . .uh. . .Noooooo" but of course being who I am it isn't hard to get me excited about buying a new "toy"(TV, Computer, Camcorders, etc.) and it is generally hard to get my mind off buying said excitement, even AFTER buying the item. originally I was looking at just updating my Impala(to a 2005 SS) but then as we were looking around we went into Freedom Chevrolet here in Duncanville, TX and we went and looked at a white 2009 Impala SS and after doing a test drive they salesman took us inside and tried to get us to buy it that day(at about 32,000 dollars), which we didn't intend to do that day, we had just been looking, and then they brought out the manager who tried to bully us(me and my dad) into buying the car(they had my dad sign a "contract" that if they could get us a deal at 500 a month for 72 months that we would buy the car right then) and while they were off "crunching the numbers" I pulled out my iphone, remembering that the camaro was actually gonna start out for much less and when I checked my figures I brought this up to my dad and we decided we were gonna leave as soon as they came back and said it wasn't going to work(we knew our credit probably wasn't going to allow that deal at the time). So when they came back they tried to sell us another "similar" car and we said no and when we mentioned the camaro as a deciding factor they mentioned they were going to mark it up(which I didn't know better at the time, but it still sounded unfair) and we promised to come back when the camaro was in.

We haven't been back since and I spent the time since researching the Camaro like no tomorrow. I actually spend time telling people who come by dealerships or showroom floors I have visited all about the Camaro and the differences between the LS, LT's, and the SS's.

One of my concerns was whether or not I would fit in it(I'm 6'3 and I sit Tall) and so I would spend most mornings opening up my phone's web browser and just typing "Camaro" into the google news search and just read reviews and news. Eventually I started getting bored with reviews since they just didn't tell me anything new. Then I decided to get into listening to podcasts and of course the first thing I typed in was Camaro and I found the CamaroZ28 podcasts and just started listening to them as I delivered pizza.

I will admit to being a Chevy Fanboy, I actually was given two cars (to learn on)before I actually got my drivers license and we got my first 2002 Impala. My first car was an 88 Ford Festiva(we bought it for 400 dollars) which was a manual that I never learned to drive and we ended up selling it for 545 dollars without ever driving it. Then when we bought my mother her Pontiac Grand Prix, I was handed down a Plymouth Grand Voyager which I drove around a little while learning but I hated the thought of driving a van to High School(I was a teen, I thought I should have a choice) and so I managed to get a 2002 Chevy Impala as my first real car. And about 4 or 5 months later I wrecked it horribly(flipped it by running into a pile of tree limbs that were stacked on the side of the road with some of it sticking out into the road) fortunately it turns out the car was worth more than we paid for it so we came out ahead. We went car shopping(at Freedom Chevrolet) and they first showed us the Impalas like we wanted and then they pointed out the camaros. I got in one and it wasn't a bad fit, but I couldn't see very well and I just didn't feel the same feeling that I did in the Impala, plus I wasn't a fan of the look(at the time) so we continued shopping and found my current car, the 2000 Chevy Impala LS(in that year, the LS was the top of the line model).

Since my infatuation began with the 2010 Camaro, I started looking into its history and started falling for the past generations as well. I agree with Jason, I have a soft spot for the 3rd gen, but the 5th gen is where I stake my affection.

Essentially these are the order of my love of Camaros.
1. 5th Gen
2. 3rd Gen
3. 2nd Gen, 1st Gen, 93-97 4th Gen
4. 98-02 4th Gen

I'm sorry the headlamps look cooler sunken in.

And if you have read this minor novel, well I salute you and I am sorry.
