Wink Noobie

Hello everyone. I don't currently own a Camaro which is the biggest reason that I joined this forum. I am wanting to get another one around May-June time frame when I can pay cash. But if I find the perfect car for me then I would be willing to get a loan. I will post a want ad when I am ready to buy.

Anyway, more about me. I live in Northern Utah, which means it is snowing right now and it sucks! I have owned 4 F-Bodies in the past. A 1987 Camaro V6, a 1993 formula 383 stroker w/stock heads M6 (ran a 14.4@98 mph ), a 1995 Camaro Z28 Full Bolt-Ons M6 (ran a best of 14.1@99 mph), and a 1999 Camaro Z28 (Never ran it, but it felt the slowst of them all except the V6). I have a hard time commiting to a car for too long, because I like so many different cars and can't have them all at one time. Lol. I have owned 12 different cars in about 5 years.

I currently own a 2008 Grand Prix GXP and a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT (ran a 16.9@?? Lol).

I will post some pictures of my current cars as well as some of my previous when I get to my computer as I am writing this on my phone and don't have my pictures on it.

Welcome to the site.

Those are horrible times with your previous F-bodies. Were you drag racing in the snow??

I'm thinking he lives at a higher elevation...thin air is hell on ETs and power.

Northern Utah is pretty high.

LS1s feel slower than LT1s, but mod for mod, they aren't.

Note: I am not trying to turn this into an LT1 vs LS1 war.

Um... Yeah. Rocky Mountain Raceways is at about 4400 ft. above sea level. Using correction equations it would put my time slip at 13.3@105.5 mph.

14.1×.9458=13.33 et. and 99.83×1.0577=105.59 mph

So ya, elevations killed me on my Z28. It was only a bolt-on car with a 9". I have no excuse for my formula though. It just didn't run like it was a stroker. Could have been the heads being stock. But I can't say for sure since I didn't keep it long enough.

I agree with you as far as top end goes, but mod for mod LT1's have more low end grunt. The last LS1 I raced at the track with my Z28 ran just a little bit faster than me in the quarter and he matched my car mod for mod except for the fact that he had stripped out his interior. At the eighth mile I had 2 cars on him, but at about 1000' he came around me very fast. He ended up running a 13.9@103. Ya I lost $100 on that one.

But I think that my '99 was the opposite of a "Factory Freak". What's the word for that? Lemon? Lol. I'm glad I got rid of that piece.

This is a myth, perpetuated primarily by four things:
1. denial
2. misunderstanding
3. inappropriate comparisons
4. driver error

LT1s feel like they have more low-end grunt, but I assure you -- the butt dyno lies.

I too, used to think this, but the LS1s have more torque across the board

Welcome to the site. And JakeRobb, despite your statement, this will most definitely turn into an LT1 vs LS1 war.

Well I am just going off of three different LS1's that I have raced that had the same mods as me and I beat them up until about 75 everytime. Then they would pass me pretty good. We raced from a dig and from a roll. Mine may have just been a factory freak or something.

My LT1 will stomp you in the dirt any day of the week.

What mods did you have? And what did they have?

I had Pacesetter LT Headers, 3" ORY, 3" Magnaflow cat-back, K&N Intake, Tubular LCA's, Tubular Adj. Panhard, and I had a 9" Moser.

One of the LS1's claimed he had a cam and suspension (but I never saw it, and by the way I beat him I don't think that he had a cam), along with LT's and Magnaflow cat-back, lid.

Another one of them was a friend of mine. He had Full SLP exhaust from LT's to the Loudmouth 1, short throw shifter, and a Volant intake.

And the last one had suspension, LT's, cat-back, built auto trans w/shift kit, and like I said earlier, he had his whole interior stripped out along with no spare tire.

I can't fully explain why my car beat them until about 75 or 80, but I did. I may of had the driver mod over 1 or 2 of them, but who knows.

This may have been why the times were slower in this car. Alot of extra weight.
