New 94 Z28 LT1 owner

I am very fortunate I was in the right place at the right time. I wanted something to take to the Wed night Drags with my Brother N Law and 15 year old Nephew. He bought a 91 z28 to work on with Dad and early this year (he just turned 15 this summer). When they got it running good, we started going to the drags, and I was running my truck (1985 Toyota 4x4, fully built rock Crawler, 21 gears yada, yada,,) I got bored. Too slow.

So, my wife and I sat down and found some cash I could use, and I started looking. She was great, I hemmed and hawed about not spending the money, and she told me I never spend any on myself anymore, and she wanted me to have a fun car to go out to the track with. How cool is that?

It was listed at $2500. When he took it for smog, they found a bad heater core, and then the smog shop checked for Hc in the coolant, and determined it has a bad head gasket. And he asked if I would buy it for $500. So, since it was pretty clean for it's age, I said yes. Had AAA tow it home (I Drove it when I went to look), Anyway, long story short, no blown head gasket, just a bunch of little issues, and maintenance items. I had it smogged and registered in 3 days. (In California)

The car had been sitting in a church parking lot since last Sept, and he had bought another car. His parents live at the church as caretakers. I think the church told them it had to go or else. He had no skills to work on it. He would have spent 2K+ fixing it to make $500. He cut his loses, it was a good deal all the way around. He liked that I was going to fix it up. He was a very honest, and decent guy, and I reciprocated the same back.

It has AC, Power windows and locks, Cruise, and of course, the Delco Bose head unit.

First time out, it ran mid 14's, 99mph with the 2.73 posi. Not bad for a car that got towed home, with 128k on it.

I have a complete 2000 SS 3.42 Torson ready to swap in, just need to install the reluctor ring for my abs sensor, Tunercat should be here this week, and I picked up a used laptop for tuning use.

It's been a long time since I raced and played with a Muscle car, looking forward to learning the in's and outs of PCM tuning. Hope to find some help on sites like this as I progress.

Welcome
You got a 94Z in good shape for $500?

<--- jealous

So you have $2,000 to spend on mods then?

Some thing you could look at....
CAI, Catback exhaust, Smog legal headers, sticky tires

Thanks guys, the fact that it turned out to be not a big deal to get it running was a bonus. I would have bought it without an engine and trans for $500 because it was in such good shape.

It will probably get the chassis fab work this winter, just depends on my schedule. I like to do all my own fab work, and have the tools and skills.

Pics are worth a 1000 words, I'll shut up now ....

The tow home

After initial repairs to smog and Register it. Gave it a bath, have not polished it as of yet

The code is 18U, so maybe??? My Brother-N-Law works in parts at the local Chevy dealer, and his decode of my VIN says "Dark Green-Gray", the code is 18U, so maybe???

This is my first Camaro, I used to be really into 2nd gen TA's years ago. I have been learning a ton from my Bro and Nephew.

Greetings from the Texas coast! Sounds like you've got a good thing going on for yourself. I got my 94 Z28 last Christmas when a member of my wife's family fell on hard times. Same symptoms your Z28 had to a T! While gathering $$$$ to rebuild, a tree fell on it. Got all the body & interior parts to fix it and am back on track to get on the track. You'll find this site a big help. Have fun!
