I just traded my friend my 2001 honda civic ex (manual, drift car, that got 48 mpg highway) for a 1996 z28 camaro (auto). Though I think i'm living my fathers life, he had many camaro's and i wanted to see what all the talk was about. My first car was a 1978 Monte Carlo SS, so i'm fully aware of the Chevy world, and i had owned a 91 silverado(my grandfathers truck) for a winter car. Aside from that I've owned 2 fords and a saturn. My only regreats were the fords. Anyway, I found out what all the hype was about, I love my Camaro! My issues are I want to fix him up a bit, and eventually take him out and open him up. (him= previouse owner called him george) Does anyone know of any specialty shops in Springfield IL? I know a bunch in Elgin/schaumburg and rockford IL, but i just moved here and I have no idea if this place has a track, or if there's anything decent as far as a shop around here.

 

you were able to drift a civic? strange but i feel it. Anyway congrats on upgrading and hope you enjoy driving the camaro.

 

how do you drift a front wheel drive car? dont u actually need horse power to do that .

the easiest way i found was to lock your anti-lock brakes, down shift one gear turn the wheel in the direction that you were going and pop it into the lowest gear near to 5,000 rpm or a little higher gas it,(watch the rpms), set the wheel straight(1/2 way through drift), and make sure you shift back up before you red-line.... simple as pie... it's not so much horsepower as in straight out torque. one of the best drift cars out there is a 1986 toyota corolla. granite it's rear wheel drive, but i've seen a lot of eg hatch backs doing it too(all front wheel). as far as rear wheel i would like to work on that, but my camaro needs a new suspension and i'd prefer it to be manual if that were the case.
