Well I hit a pretty good one on rt2 at 3:00 in the mornin almost 2 weeks ago. I pretty much forgot about it till a couple days ago I noticed I bent the lip of the rim
I went to a few shops around here and nobody said they could fix it. I really don't want to have to buy a new rim either, even though it appears to be mostly cosmetic, I want to keep my car looking its best
So I think since the state does not want to pay to fix potholes on major highways they should pay to buy me a new wheel. What do you guys think? And how should I go about opening a claim through the state?... I already got an estimate.

You'd probably have more luck filing a claim with your insurance money then getting any money from the state

 

I would absolutly put a claim in with the state. There are some good rim shops that can fix that. That is an easy fix actually.

 

I believe that potholes, in gereral, are considered "road hazards" and are therefore excluded from most insurance policies. There is usually a size/depth exception that varies from state to state. I think the depth is usually 4-6 inches or something monumental like that. You would need to check with your states department of transportation to find out the particulars.

 

I do some business with some highway departments on the gas utility end and I noticed a post on the wall of one that was a "reminder" to the department that they are legally responsible for the road...including potholes.

Yeah, Dan's pretty upset. there are some beastly potholes out in western MA. thats probably what caused my tire to bubble on my GTP, probably wailed one. ask scott this weekend about that place in boston if you remember! ill try but no promises! dont worry, well find a way, worst come to worst you get those nice rims you want!

Do you know of any particular shops that could do the repair. I wouldn't mind spending $100 bucks or so to fix it, rather than dealing with the state. But believe me I will if I have to, the worst they can say is no. I think I have to contact the Mass attourney General.

I wouldn't mind getting a new set of wheels. Probably TT2's (even though everyone and there uncle has em). But I cannot afford to do that right now. Especially after dropping $1.5k into the winter beater for suspension(more potholes). At this rate I'll never get my headers.

 

The place in Newtown MA is one of the best in the country (def. the East Coast), the name has something Wheel in it. I'll try to look it up. I curbed up my wheel in the Hawk and they charged $120 ro fix it (it was not bent).

I believe it's called "Rim + Wheel Works" in Newton. I'm definately gonna look into going with them. A neighbor of mine says I barely stand a chance of getting a claim with the state, he works for the highway department. So I guess I'll call them later this week. Hopefully they can fix it. that S*CKS horribly. y not try and place a claim w/ the state? its worth a shot right? i mean the worst they could do is say no. its worth a shot, id try it. good luck man.

Dan there's a place over here close to where I live. The place is called "Bent Wheels" located in Westport. The guy does some pretty amazing stuff to cracked, bent, or warped wheels. He works the wheels on special machines back to within .002" of true round, or at least thats what he said when i went to see him a while back now. let me know if you want the number or anything.
