Those with LS1s.....

I'm looking for an exhaust setup, and I am soon putting in my LM, and next I'm going for headers in a few months. However, I am trying to do it and still make it emissions legal. So, I was wondering those of you with LS1s, and have headers, what is your setup? Also, is there a website with the exact exhaust laws (if they don't pass the new one that is)

Moving the cats are illegal right? Does that leave my only options as mid length headers like SLP or Mac? Will moving the cats only affect a visual test, or will it throw off the sniffer test?

Thanks in advance.

Well, Im 20.... I don't know if that makes the ages match up....and when I was in drivers ed, I didn't even have my 1st fbody (88 Formula....ahhhhhh) and I wasn't really interested in them at that point...

I thought if you moved the cats at all, you'd fail emissions? Or would you just fail a visual?

Well you can move the cats wherever you want as long as they are there you will pass the visual. I have heard alot about the KooKs headers for the ls1's that are getting some serious HP gains out of them....with a ypipe and headers they are about 1000. After that get some ls1edit and it's all good

Technically you fail if you move the cats but 9 out of 10 places only care that they are there. As long as you get rear 02 sims and headers that will bolt up to your egr you will pass cause all they are gonna do is plug into your computer. One other thing to worry about is noise they can fail you for that. Most poeple just make it pass the best they can except for noise then bring it to a place where there are car enthusiests they will usually let you slide on a little bit of noise.

I was thinking of going with SLPs or MACs...do I need to more the cats for those or not cuz they're mid length? Will those be unbearably loud with my LM?

I just put on jet hots with offf road y and my loudmouth. at idle it isn;t too bad under 2k it is ok but over 2k it is nuts! with cats you should be ok. Slp's are long tubes and hang really really low.

Are jet hots mid lengths or LTs? How much did they cost?

Long tubes and the headers were somthing like 525 or so shipped from forcefed performance or jet hot themselves. The Y was 175 shipped I believe and I am not sure about the catted Y.

I wouldn't recommend either of them.99% of the people I put headers on there car and already run a Loudmouth, come back to install bullits to quiet down the exhaust again.
