State Troopers on 495/290/90, what radar?

Went to Haverhill last night on 290, just after the Solomon Pond Mall exit and before 495, there were 4 troopers there speed trapping, just behind the overpass bridge abutments eastbound. My radar detector did not pick it up, but they were stopping people.

...and then on the way home (11:00pm) there was a trooper who paced me for 5miles, came out of no where, no radar detector warning.

Anyone know what radar they are using? Their guns looked like small video cameras? ....laser? ...other?

I have a Bel980 radar detector which supposedly detects laser and I believe works because when I am near the airport it picks up the flightlines.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure, but be really careful around Lawrence and Metheun. I have a friend who's a statie, and he said they get more funding based on ticket revenue. They are in force on I-93 between 128 and 495, and on 495 between Lowell and Haverhill. And they have a couple of unmarked cars too - including a green mustang and a couple of Tahoes.

I know the staties have laser...you don't get much warning, but they can't use them in the car either.

Make sure you keep your eyes on the sky too

They will track with plane/helicoptor... Those white lines on the side of the highway mark the start/finish and they just time you.

I'm not sure if the "My radar detector didn't go off" defense would work, I allways wanted to try it though!
