Need a good engine rebuild shop in MA
GM is about to void my engine warranty and I have a blown motor (threw a connecting rod-hole in block, etc). Don't really need a crate engine, as I have all the caaseories from the old one. Any thoughts?

Give NEDYNO a call.
But you still need a block so start calling some f-body junk yards. Speedautomotive.com usually has alot of f-body stuff.
Call GM and see if they'll sell just the block.
Or you could use this opportunity to build a stroker motor.

DR X,
one of the best shops is in ct. Horsepower engineering in ellington ct i think. they build lots of busch north motors and drag motors. they are a little more expensive but you get what you pay for.
by the way where in norwood do you live. i work in norwood at putnam investments its next to polaroid or kodak building behind rojos on rt one.

Since you threw a rod,I'd say you need a new block. You can get a new GM motor for under 6k complete or I would have an engine built from MTI or Agistino.I would not have a local shop build me a LSI since they have little experience compared to the other 2 I have listed.
Dr. X give us a call! We build everything from 300 hp small blocks to 2500+ hp blown alcohol modified motors. If you have a choice I would go local, if you have an issue once you have the car running what do you do, drive to Canada or Texas? I have heard good things about Agostino crate motors, but MTI, Slowhawk, where have you been, we have a MTI motor in pieces in our shop, Let me say I am insulted comparing an engine designer and builder like us to an assembly shop like them. Tbyrne had his motor built at Agostino and is still trying to get the bugs worked out, and I know its been difficult for him with the distance. We are the only shop in New England with a digitally controlled engine dyno, which is an option when your motor is complete. It depends on where you want to take it, if you want to keep it where you are a crate motor may be the answer.

Dr. X,
Call Dean and set up an appointment to take a tour of Nedyno/Quest Racing.
It doesn't matter if its an LT1 or an LS1 they can build you a reliable motor.
An aluminum block is an aluminum block, whether its an LS1 or a 500cube race motor with 2500hp the same machining techniques apply. The balancing and the clearancing are all the same. The assembly process still takes place the same way.
Find a reliable shop, and a shop you feel comfortable dealing with.
Ask Vortech396 (John) what a pain it is to deal with a company that is 2000 miles away,
when the engine they just built only lasted 5000miles.
Do you have plenty of time to take off from work to drive back and forth to the builder/tuner or do you have plenty of frequent flyer miles to fly him to you to work the bugs out.
Nothing beats a local shop that can handle the job from start to finish.
Rob
Thanks, fellas. Yeah, I've dynoed at NEDYNO a couple of times. Dean is a great guy. I would definitely trust him with my car. The problem is that for me, Worcester is still a 1+ hour hike. When I was having problems with this engine it was a hassle for me to even get the car to the local dealer. As this is my only car and daily driver, I cannot even consider a stroker engine built outside of MA.
9secondLX, I live close to where you work, just off Pleasant street near the baseball field.

You don't have to beat me silly Dean
I just go with what works.I personnaly haven't talked to anyone that has a built LS1 done at your shop.Doesn't mean you can't do it
Some day when I get some free time I'll be by Dean.I'm in the process of installing some ported heads now.

No beating here Slowhawk
I know both those shops have built combos that have performed well. Its just if you can get the same thing or better local it is always easier if you have issues down the road especially trying to get everything tuned and in sync. Many guys would prefer the one stop shop, as most do not have the knowledge and skills you have.
