NEDT booked solid...where else to go?

I am in need of a head swap and NEDT is booked till after July 4th Anyways where else can I do a head swap? I called a shop in RI and they said around $1000 which I think is a little much because Dean quoted me around 5-8 hours of labor.

Anyways where did you guys get your head swaps done (for those of you who went to a shop)?

I actually ad my dealer swap my heads. Took 5 hours at $65.00/hr. This was a couple of years ago and the mechanic who did the work no longer works there but I got a good deal. If I hear of someone down your way I'll post up.

I think most dealers don't want to deal with aftermarket parts......

I hope you get 'considerations' for all your keystrokes.
I did a search on Gaunt in the NE forum. You've plugged him 19 times!

he usually gives me a discount on my labor and for smaller things he wont charge me at all. also over the winter he let me store my cars for free at his shop... and he does very good work.

its just him and bill that work there. so they know exactly whats going on with the cars....

Sam quoted me like $1100 with stock manifolds, a few hundred more if i had headers (whihc I do)

From what I understand, it should not be a 22 hour job.....

Sorry about the quote that was given.I work for the shop and refuse doing motor work on LTI's since I'm not a fan of the motor(PITA to work on).Hope you find a good/cheap shop to help you out

Yes, but what did Dean quote you for a price? How many guys working on it to get it done with 5-8 hours of labor? No disrespect to NEDT intended. Just seems a bit tooooo fast that's all.

Prices and quality of work will vary greatly depending on the mechanic. The fellow that swapped my heads had been racing for over 22 years and specialized in high performance cars. He was known to be extremely fast and was not what I would call a detail type of guy.

Be comfortable with the person doing the work and be absolutely clear on expectations up front. Much better to have a long term mutually beneficial relationship than a rush job and pissed off people.

>If you can do it yourself it would save tons of cash , but time to do it is the problem for most of us . I installed my AFR heads and it took me almost 2 weeks doing it a couple of hours at a time .
But like Dennis (9SecondLX) said Ed is pretty awesome with his quality .

Oh and your precious LS-1 is better to work on

Marc

95TA8280 - Ed is probably going to be your cheapest source for having it done

If you're interested in a good shop in Rhode Island I recommend SRA Transmission 401-683-5670

Really the only difference in doing heads on a LT1 Vs LS1 is that the headers on the LS1 are 10x easier to put on.
Both motors are under the cowl, and its a PITA, but it comes down to how many times have you done it before and learning little tricks here and there to make the job easier and faster.
