MA inspection laws? ...anything change since last year?

My '96 'bird is due to be inspected by months end. Have the MA emissions laws changed at all since last year? Do they hook it up to the computer every year regardless of vehicle year? Are they still doing emissions every other year and safety every year? despite if the vehicle is an even or odd year? Will they dyno it even tho they did last year? What can I expect? Thanks. -Jeff

>Since your car is a 1996 isn't it due for Safety inspection only ? or do you have to do Emissions for 2004 ?

Thanks for the link. ...any idea why it says "draft" on top of the page? ...anyway, it says on page 4 (of 13) sec 4 (a)(1) that all vehicles must have an emissions test, then there are lines(crossouts) over the previous odd & even year scenario. ...not that I am tooo concerned, as my vehicle only has 16,000+/- miles on it, it's just that last year I did not warm it up enough before the inspection and then it sat cold in the lot for 45min before testing. They got some sort of error code on the computer read out, so they then had to put it on the dyno. and it just squeaked by. They tech told me my O2 sensors were going bad, I think they were not heated up enough. ...we'll see what tomorrow brings.

It appears that 96 and newer cars get the OBD test every year.

>also ensure that your plate (front) doesn't have anything around it (i.e.- plate cover/ dealer advertisement / etc.)
I also check my lights all of them especially the license plate lights and make sure that you have windshield washer fluid or water for the windshield .
The insp stations are pretty thorough here in Ludlow .

....well it passed. I was kinda sketchy at first. It did not appear that the tech followed any protocal in the process. Checked the tires, typed a few things on the keyboard, went and looked at the front and rear plates, checked the rear plate light, and then checked the tires again. Popped the hood, looked at the engine, dropped the hood, never doing anything under it, and checked the tires again. He also checked my driver side door sticker quite a few times, as well and at one point brought a cable, I thought it was the computer plug-in cable for under the dash(OBD) to the driver's side, but never did anything with it. Things I did not see him check, windshield wipers, horn, front lights/hi-beams (actually, never raised the lights) rear lights/blinkers, e-brake, seatbelts, ball joints. On the print out he gave me after, it said I passed all, except that the O2 were "not ready", yet that was never checked. Well, anyway, until next year...

Van...if you get some *** that does the inspection and jacks the car up..to check for cat and all that..and sees those..you will fail and they will MAKE you replace them..as far as I was told..thats why I got shorties
I could be wrong though..
