Lightbulb List Of All Good Shops In New England

How about we all compile a list of good and bad shops in New England so none of us ever gets ripped off again? Including what we got done there ect.

Heres my contribution:

Bad Shops:
Liberty Chevrolet in Wakefield, MA (Charged me $700 screwing with tailights , they didn't even fix it, plus water leaked in after they worked on it), I installed a new $10 harness and fixed it in 15 minutes...)

AutoWorks in Stoneham, MA
Quoted me $600, as the highest price if the install didn't go well (IE: stubborn bolts ect.) Charged me $1,300. Headers leaked after two weeks (I only drove it 2 times in that time period.) Brought it back and wanted to charge me for fixing the leak. Sprayed opti with water, shorted that out... Claimed it wasn't their fault, its a defect... Anyone with half a brain knows not to get water on the optispark...

So where are the good shops guys? Let's try to get this list nice and long and I'll post it up on a site.

Bruno's transmissions in Bridgeport Ct and Stratford Ct

A very close friend owns these shops and I know they are very honest and fair. If anyone wants any trany work done, or any work for that matter, they will hook you up. Especially if you contact me and I give my recomendation.

Forgot to add, lou's custom exhaust in North Reading, MA. They fabricated my custom y pipe. Had 4 guys working on it at the same time. They have a passion for the business. I have had trouble with some work they did, the hole in inwhich the cutout butterfly was supposed to open into wasnt large enough, they quickly resolved the issue, no hassle at all. Very good prices too. Great guys.

Dezs' in Seekonk. NEver had anything done there but I went down for a dyno day and talked with the owner Chris? Dez. Seemed like a real cool guy. Not to mention the cars making 500+ rwp were built there.

Re: List Of All Good Shops In New England

Just to chime in here about header installs...it really depends on gaskets used and how flat the flanges on the headers are to begin with. Also, you NEED to retighten those bolts after a few starts because they will back out. I have installed shorties and LT's on my car, along with heads/cam (heads twice), 3.73 gears, clucth, anything you can think of. I have had problems with copper gaskets with headers.

My point here is that sometimes the shop has nothing to do with whether the headers will leak or not. You cant really screw it up when installing...it comes down to quality of components used and maintenance.

Another vote for dez racing in Seekonk MA. I have a had a bunch of stuff done there been going there sinec he had his old shop in Warren RI. Great place great people. The owner 'Mike' is a pretty funny guy. loves to talk. Only down side to the place is its mostly mustangs but they do work on anything domestic. I was actually there yesterday. had some pretty cool cars in the shop including a one of a kind Saleen that was getting the stock motor swapped for a TT. I wish i had that kinda money.

But yeah they do great work just sometimes hard to get them to do the work. there is so much going on in the shop at once that it takes a while sometimes to get what you need done but that just means more time to hang around his shop and watch cars dyno and play with some of the toys in the shop
Great place, If you have never been ther you should go check it out.

Re: List Of All Good Shops In New England

Realquick, I get what your saying, but they said i blew a gasket by driving it 3 or 4 times. Also when I bought the gaskets at the store/garage they said they would warranty the parts/labor for 30 days( Main reason I got those parts there was the warranty, even though the parts were more costly.) Then when I went back they said it wasnt under warranty because it was a performance part. The part I don't understand is that a store that advertises
"AutoWorks, Auto Customization" means they specialize in customizing cars. When you walk in you only see vettes, camaros and rice burners. The point is a shop shouldn't give you a warranty then take it back when something goes wrong. When I asked why the header install price was so outrageous the guy told me "We stand behind our work, if you have a problem, bring it back and we'll fix it free." Another lie..

alot of places won't do headers/manifolds because risk of bolts breaking in head.
